Wavebox or not?

I have just purchased my dream tank (pick it up Aug 5) which is 11 feet long. For water movement I have gone with 6 Tunze's (4 x 6100 on a 7095 controller and 2 x 6025) plus 2 external pumps for returns. What I am wondering is, would adding a wavebox be overkill and would it even be necessary? I have heard bad things about the wavebox...such as splashing water out of the tank etc. Would YOU put a wavebox in a tank with 4 x 6100's? With pumps like that, would the wavebox even work the way it's supposed to?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,
Pete

Pete,

Sounds like a fun project.
The Wavebox offers a different flow pattern to any other pump and is designed to be used in combination with circulation pumps. The Wavebox gives the back and forth slosh you see in the real ocean, this helps to eliminate dead spots.
Depending on the width of your aquarium you would need at least one extension box with the the Wavebox.
The Wavebox is controllable and will not have water jumping out the end of your aquarium.

What is the volume of the aquarium and depth and width? Where would the overflows be positioned?

Unfortunately, even though it is 11 feet long, it is only 25 inches tall and deep. (130x25x25) I wish it was taller and deeper, but I like the idea of the length. This is a 'standard' tank for this company so when I inquired about making it bigger, it was going to cost THOUSANDS more because it would be custom.

That said, the volume is only 340 gallons...would I still NEED the extention on the wavebox? What does the extention do and is it absolutely necessary?

Thanks again!
Pete

It would be better if you could move the overflows in toward the center more, maybe 3 feet from either end or one very large double drained center overflow (ideal) A tank this long can run a double wave which is an optionb to reduce wave height, still with an extension a 2"+ wave should be possible, without an extension it should still work you are at the limit of what a wavebox with no extension can do.

Healthypetpete,

Roger is right if you can have the overflows close to the centre it will be much less slosh noise as when the water slops into the overflow at the end of the aquarium, but the wave is minimum or none in the centre.
I think you may achieve more then 2 inches but I work in metric :D

Best Regards
Graeme
