Does anyone have any good ideas on how to stimulate my octopus. The only think I really do to stimulte him is to add live food and new hide outs occasionlly. Any ideas would be great.
Octopus are very smat and curious creatures and will not truley thrive in the aquarium IMO if they are not giving things to occupy themselves(ex. what willy21 does)
rubix cube. or on a serious note.. they sell this for dogs that you put treats in and the dog tries to get the treat out.. they have them for small dogs probably the size of a gold ball to a soft ball... you could put a formula one cube in it and let it sink to the bottom of the tank and see if he can get it out.
ive actually seen an octo try to do a rubix cube.... seriously! it was amazing.... he was better at it than i was because it watched us mess it up and those damn creatures have a better memory than i do!
Here's an interesting article from the Seattle Aquarium on Octopus enrichment: http://is.dal.ca/~ceph/TCP/OctopusToys.html
The main conclusion seems to be that, while octos need challenges, there is no 'one size fits all' solution.Octos are individuals with individual needs and preferences. If there are any universals on this subject it's that they seem to like moving parts and toys that give up a snack as part of the game.
