.....has been ordered. Don't expect an update anytime soon. Probably going to be two weeks or so before I get my hands on it.

Brief specs.

Planet Aquarium 120, 48x24x24 rimless with external overflow. It is their standard model. I decided no custom stuff to keep the cost down.

Sump is probably going to be a 40 breeder converted to a sump by me.

Stand will be built by me. It will be longer than the tank, just shy of 6ft and have a dry section for electrical and room so I can get everything out of the way. No plans to keep the frag tank. I really junked up the corner of our living room and want a cleaner system this time.

Not sure on pumps yet, need to see how the tank comes configured by will shoot for +/- 5x's through the sump.

Lights will be AI hydra 52's. I have two now and will add a third down the road. Going to make my own light rack and it will be configured to accept 4 units just in case.

Other flow will the vortecs. I have 3 MP10's currently. If the glass is not to thick they will go on the back (and maybe a 4th) and I will add 2 mp40's later.

Will start with the skimmer I have now, but room will be made for a larger one.

Already have a doser, that will be reused.

That is it for now.

I am planning on changing my FOWLR to an SPS tank by the end of the year. Just have to get my parameters in order, and save my lunch money so I can upgrade my lighting.

My oldest daughter asked if we could get and emperor angle in the new tank. I really would love to have one, but worried about them being safe with the mix of SPS, LPS and clams I keep.

What say you all? If I would start with a juvie would that increase my chance of success?

Looking forward to your new build. I wouldn't put a angel in the tank but that's me. I don't want to go through the troubleshooting getting it out if it was to start nipping.

Sounds awesome, if you try an emperor i'll go ahead with my plans to drop a majestic in the tank - deal ? :)

Sounds like it's going to be a great build. I've always liked the dimensions of a 120 gallon. Is the tank going to be acrylic or glass? With the external overflow, will you only see the overflow teeth looking into the aquarium? Is it coast to coast? I tried to find a pic from planet aquarium of what it will look like, but couldn't find one.

It is a glass tank. Not coast to coast on the over flow. It is a notch on the back with an acrylic cover. IIRC it is about 1/3 of the total tank length.

I will post some pics when I get the tank.

I suspect the bigger issue you'll have is the size of a mature Emperor in a 120g tank. Those guys get big, quick. Any chance you could talk your daughter into a GoldFlake or Flagfin? They stay much smaller, and in my opinion, they're OK for smaller tanks.

She is a Jr in high school. I might be able to wait her out.

Curious about your new tank. Did you buy directly through Planet, or one of their dealers? I'd contacted them about a tank, but never received a reply, so I don't know if that's simply because they're a small shop and really busy, or they work through dealers only.
