What the heck are the names of these fish? We go boating around Disappearing Island in Ponce Inlet and we caught a few fish for our tank and we were hoping that someone could identify them.

juvenile lookdown. How did you catch that. My dad lives on the intercoastal right by that island we fish there all the time never seen one of these

It's so docile, it almost caught itself. LOL We caught him with a pair of goggles and brought him home with in a 16oz water bottle. Ha.

No clue on the second one, but judging on it's mouth shape, colors, and eye size I'd say it gets fairly large and will eat smaller fish and shrimp. The lookdown is a pretty cool find.

The other one looks like a baby mangrove snapper.

I wouldn't have put those fish in your tank....

Reasons,
1) You don't know what they are.
2) They will most likely get too big for your tank.
3) The snapper will eat some of your current inhabitants as it grows.
4) Your tank has stuff from all over the world so now you can't just release them if you don't want them.
5) Now you need to find them a good home.

It would different if you were collecting little gobies and blennies (there are some cool clingfish and blennies that are easy to spawn and raise down there), but jacks and snappers get big.

+1 on everything. Definitely a mangrove snapper.

It should be a little easier to find a nice home for the Lookdown, but it will be impossible to find a home for the Snapper. Chances are, You'll have to donate it to some sucker of an LFS that will sit on it for 6-12 months until it finally dies of stress from being in a 10"x10" cube.
