We need your help for the TFP event table

As was mentioned in this thread:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=801540

..NCAPRS will have a table at the TFP Anniversary Sale on the 1st and 2nd of April. At our "open to everyone" membership meeting on AIM last Friday we decided to put together a Refugium display.

My above tank/sump fuge is portable so I'll bring it, and Tim volunteered to make a basic in-tank eggcrate fuge. We will also look into purchasing a HOT power filter or fuge or two from TFP (depending on the cost) to display purchased ones.

I'm asking for help for a couple of things from the membership...

1st...We need a small tank/stand/sump/fuge setup with some basic lighting. If you have something for us to borrow we would really appreciate it. I have the request to TFP as well so I don't know what they can give us but the day of the event is very hectic and I want this to go as smooth as possible. ..not to mention we're on a time crunch. If you're near the Reading area or are willing to meet me half way I can come get it next weekend (25th, 26th) and return it to you at the Reefnest swap. Let us know what you have that we could borrow and we'll figure out the best plan of action.

2nd..I need photos of your fuges for a display. Send them to ncpars@ncpars.org or send me a link if it's on the net somewhere. I don't care if they're ugly, just a compartment in your sump, or a pretty purchased one. I'd like to see samples with members names and basic info.

3rd..If you have any photos of a progression of frag coral growth, I'd like to re-do our regular NCPARS display with those kinds of photos. Send them to ncpars@ncpars.org as well.

4th...be sure to stop by and say hi. If you have some time to help handout flyers at the table or fishroom we'd greatly appreciate it. The sale is a total of 20 hours...we need as MUCH help as possible. I will be there for all of it (and then some) and we have others that have volunteered as well. This is YOUR club...please help us spread the word. You don't have to be experienced to help out...comfortable shoes are pretty much the only requirement. :)

Thanks.

I'm there both days Kevin. All day if it is needed.

I have some extra 10g's around. I could easily do something on how to and what is needed make a home made sump/fuge. If it is ok with the store I could bring a few bags of cheato loaded with life to hand out.

Definitely bring the cheato Carl; I only have Caulerpa Racemosa. I'm not sure if the 10g will be enough for us. I'm trying to see if TFP will give us a good price on one of these:
http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW/refugium/Class//T1/F11CX+0232+0018/EDP/30603/Itemdy00.aspx
..to use at the display and then give away at the Reefnest swap. We will also do a power filter and maybe another intank fuge...all depending on $$$. If I can get it all donated, then great..and we can put the display up at the Reefnest swap and give it all away at the end.

Here's what I'm looking at doing (roughly):
fuge-demo.jpg

I have a stand for under my fuge and I'll bring a pump to feed my fuge and a heater for the whole setup. We'll either have to use our table or a stand for the main tank. I'd like a 20...we could use a 10 as a sump.

Whatever you want to do to help is great..just let us all know in here. So we can coordinate this.

Thanks.

Sweet I am really looking forward to attending this and am now more excited to see al of the fuge setup work as I am still lacking a little in this ascpect. I am still trying to get my tank up and running at the moment and am planning on using the center section of my sump as a fuge.

CarlC: I am going to need some cheato so if you have enough and I can get some off of you that would be awesome.

Mike let me see how much I can get. I just gave away a bunch last week. I will switch back to a longer light cycle to get faster growth.

Mishap...is your 20g already broken down?

Ok..how about this....

We use Mishap's 20 setup as the display. I would prefer a 30" setup over a tall 24" since we'll be hanging alot of crap off of it...but we'll work with what we've got. :) And Mishap..I'll let that PM you sent me about using your fuge in the display up to you..it's your stuff. :)

Carl...can you turn a 10g into a sump/fuge for the display? We'll need an overflow and a return pump. Tim has an overflow, but I don't think he'll be there when TFP opens so if you have one that would be better.

I'll have everything to rig my fuge to the sump. I'll also have a heater for the system.

Haven't heard back from TFP yet.

Thanks everybody.

Kevin,

I'm not a memeber (but I lurk on this forum quite a bit), but I have a 5.5 and a 2.5 if you'd like to borrow them. The 2.5 has a blue background. I also have a Penguin 330 (you could take the media baskest and BioWheels out), small heaters, etc.

I live in York, about 22 miles west of TFP. PM or e-mail me if you want to use any of this stuff.

Sump pic below...

I also have a 29 that could be used.

Yes I do have a spare C style overflow. It is still new in the box so I have no idea how well it works. Aqualifter for siphon is also no problem. I'll also bring a bunch of 1" PVC to be able to hardpipe the overflow to the sump/fuge.

No problem converting the 10.

Carl

Well...do you have a stand for the 29? I'd like to do this borrowing from as few people as possible so that I'm not running around all the time.

--Fizz

Yes I have a stand. It is a open steel type. It might work well because the bottom is open so the sump/fuge can be put underneath the main tank.

I do not have a return pump though.

Carl

The tank is empty sitting in the corner of my room on an oak knock down stand.

As for an in tank fuge, I got extra acrylic laying around, I could make another one if you had some specific dimensions in mind.

Matt

Ok...Let's see if I have this right...

Carl - Dispaly Tank, Steel Stand, Sump(fuge), C Overflow, cheato
Tim - Intank Egg Crate fuge.
Mishap - Intank acrylic fuge (if it fits!..tell me the dims please)
Me - Sump/tank fed fuge, fuge light, fuge feed pump, heater, marco already in fuge, seio for tank water movement.
TFP (or we buy or scratch) - CPR intank fuge, CPR HOT fuge, power filter fuge, WATER!

Missing yet: Lights on the tank, Lights on the sump/fuge, return pump from sump to tank (I might have one, but I need the overflow's rating)

Anything else?

Matt..let me know how I can get a hold of the fuge. I'm actually in Birdsboro on the edge of Exeter (2 miles from the Exeter WalMart)...Unless you're coming to TFP early on Saturday.

And if anybody else has live fuge photos..please email them to me or post them here (but I prefer email for higher quality). Grab a digital camera and snap a few!

Thanks for the help folks...here's to a successfull demo!

I have no idea on the flow rating. It is a 1" drain. I am thinking it would be similar to my CPR, about 300 at its max. I can get a few ball valves should we need to cut flow on the pump or overflow.

We are also gonna need return hose and a nozzle.

Carl

I have an old leaky dolphin that I can only use submerged (the leak is at the intake). It's a fast pump, so I'll just build something quick to redirect it back to the sump and control the tank return output.

I'll handle the return to the tank...pump, line, etc.

So we're down to some generic lights unless I'm missing something.

I put together a "Beginner's Guide" to refugia. It's geared towards people that know NOTHING about them (which will be a lot of TFP folks) so don't expect any earth-shattering information. It's a basic guide to concept and benefits. I would REALLY like some opinions, grammar checking, misleading or incorrect information checking, etc.

I would call this a "rough draft" although I already put some time into formatting it and adding photos so it's almost a final draft. I need to walk away from it for 48 hours (I wrote it yesterday) and come back to see if it still makes sense, but in the mean-time you're welcome to check it out.

If you print it, it's in 8.5x14 (legal paper) "Z-Fold" format.

Thanks.

Fizz,

A couple things so far: I put the missing words in all caps:

Nutrient Export section: excess IS discarded.

Live Plant and Animal Food Production:

Maybe reword "consumed to extinction" to "completely consumed"?

mandarinS or mandarin FISH

consumed TO the

By growing copepods, 1to decrease. ???

I'll keep checking it but it looks really nice!!!!
