weed whacker thread

the other thing is, I bought it in spring 2012 and I still haven't made it through the first head of line. and almost half my yard gets trimmed, not mowed.

That's nice! Hubby just went out and got a Weedeater 25cc with the head where you feed in about 18" of line only and manually refeed when it runs out. He hates the bump feeders and this one is super easy to add string to. He actually just finished using it and is very happy with how it performed. He got it at Tractor Supply for $100.

I use Husqvarna trimmers at the park and as long as the idiots running them put in the right gas and clean them up when they're done, they run like champs. There's miles of fencing that gets done on both sides and I have only lost one trimmer in the last 6-7 years and it was operator error.

My father has an Echo that's at least 25 years old and still runs like a champ. ONLY maintenance has been plugs... They probably make one of the best "home sized" trimmers. Have the same model Flanders suggested and its been great to me. One recommendation if you have a big yard, get a shoulder harness regardless of the model you choose. Saves the arms, and just better balance

oh, I used to hate them with a passion. but these echo bump feeders actually work!

I honestly don't have a lot of trimming to do so I took the cheapskate route (is anyone surprised?) and bought the cheapest gas trimmer Sears had, figuring it was SO cheap that if it broke in a few years I'd just buy another one. It's 2 stroke, 25 or 30 cc, bump feed (that actually works really well). I think it was like $70 or $75.

It's kinda like that scene in the Princess Bride where Wesley talks about how the dread pirate Roberts said he was going to kill him every morning. Every time I get that thing out to use it, I think "well, this will be the time it breaks." It hasn't yet. It's been 9 years. :D

My weed wacker is the only thing I've got that will cut grass right now. I pulled out the rider yesterday and cannot get any spark. I might be looking for a new rider now. Whose got my new rider?

The Echo stuff that I've used has been nice. I've got a back pack blower and that thing is awesome. With 35 mature trees in my yard it's really needed.

can't go wrong with Shindaiwa, Stihl, and echo. none are cheap though

I just picked up a shindaiwa C242 hedge cutter (also does string), pretty impressive. also picked up a 40watt electric for the lady - impressive for electric.

I prefer 2 cycles - light and reliable.

the Stihl 4-mix from what little I ready is really a 2 cycle with valves. still uses two cycle mix, no oil sump like a real 4 stroke.
