weird tentacle thing

I'm guessing it is part of the cloves....maybe some tentacle trying to branch out and start a colony somewhere else? Anybody know for sure?

It's just a strand or flesh spreading out in search of a new place to grow. Kind of like how strawberry plants send out roots that sprout whole new plants.
