Well, that didn't take long

My peacock has historically ignored fish, so in the new tank, I added a few to get some movement. Well... sushi's been on the menu. I've lost one fish a day (night, actually) for the last three days, including a fish that I thought was smart and fast enough to last -- a six-line wrasse.

Guess I'll stick to $3 damsels...

Says a lot for the mantis, though. She's figured out that the fish sleep at night, when they're much easier to pick off.

We tend to forget that O. scyllarus are partially nocturnal. I have seen them out and about on night dives (usually with a full moon) and in my lab I occasionally prowl the tanks at night using a far red LED and usually find some of the O. scyllarus active.

I wish she was more diurnal, actually! She sticks to her tube most of the time, coming out only rarely. Usually she's either completely hidden or has just her head protruding.
