Well that just sucks!

Back on the grid for a minute (summer is a VERY busy time for me).

I came home from a weekend camping trip to find Duncan the puffer really really mad at me... spitting water out of the tank and smashing himself against the glass. Upon further investigation the tank was at 94 degrees, and EVERYTHING else in the tank was dead (a bunch of soft corals, mushrooms, anemones, and a really cool Clarkii I will miss very much).

The chiller for my big system is in the room behind the small system that cooked, and for some reason we didn't leave the air conditioning on.

100 gallons of new water and 6 hours later the puffer is back in the tank, had his dinner, and seems content. How he survived when everyone else didn't is beyond me, but I'm grateful.

Looks like it's time to exhaust the chiller outside!

Ugh... sorry to hear about this. I'm glad the puffer is happier now but still... what a thing to come home to.

Thanks guys. I completely emptied the system, tank and sump, rinsed all the sand and rock with clean salt water and put it back in, filled it with water from the big system, and replaced the water in the big system with new water. I also moved over a few rocks. Not an ideal solution for sure, but I hope the resulting cycle(s) are bearable, given the fact that the puffer is now the only resident. That is one tough little fish!

I'm starting to feel the same way. Last year we had to come home early from our July 4th trip because our lower level flooded from a bad sump pump switch (frying all my pumps, controller, etc.). Thursday night before we left this year half of our power went down - turned out to be a burned up meter socket that if not discovered would have likely started a fire.

I guess you do the best you can to foolproof things and hope for the best!

Aaron,man im sorry to hear that. that clarki was an awsome fish. And all those giant mushrooms...ect. was definatly a nice softy tank. maybe you shouldnt go on vac. during the 4th anymore..lol if you need a hand with anything im right around the corner gimmie a call...will

Wow sorry to hear that where about do you live? Maybe you could have someone stop in once and a while and check on it while your gone or set a controler up with a alarm that will send you a message if something goes bad

Aaron, I am always available during the day if you ever need someone to help out. Just throwing that out there if you need a sitter....don't like seeing anyone lose life in this hobby...been there, done that...sucks.

Need a blue ribbon or gold star for that Puffer.
