Wench has bitten me for the last time!

I had a pair of skunks, and they are the most passive IMO.
In my case though they blended too much w/ the color of my nems, no contrast, just didn't enjoy them as much.
My marrons were pretty, just had to learn how to deal w/ them.
I tried the pos approach, feeding her nems well w/ hand and such, swatting at her a little as she came at me.
Problem was as she got bigger, she got way more aggro, chasing my hand right back as soon as I would pull away.
Especially when she started laying eggs, became very territorial, and moved or broke corals that were too close.
Funny thing is, I'm a carpenter, big guy, laugh at splinters, cuts, bruises that would make many cry.
But I'll tell you, that little 5" hellion freaks the snot outa me!
And those surprise attacks have startled me so many times resulting in broken corals.
She has made me feel like the biggest sissy!
I'm sure my neighbors have heard me cussing her out after a good blood drawing bite going" yeah, there he goes, yelling at his fishtank again"LOL

My maroon has jumped out of the tank to get me as well, once I swear she got about a foot of air then hit the floor.
I looked at her thinking it's time for trade, but her male was still there.
And the biting, mine has bitten between the webbing of fingers, ouchee!
 
Davocean, thats so funny...my hubby is now the same way after she got him, squealed like a scared baby pig. Although I did get some pleasure out it, since he made so much fun of me & he is a big bad boat captain, been deep sea & sports fishing here on the gulf coast for over 20 years.

Since I have decided to get rid of her he is bound & determined to catch her w/ fishing line & a tiny baited hook (bream or such)!
Says it wont hurt her, but I refuse. I think its just that male ego thing wanting to get her back.......no offense guys.

Dont really know how I'm gonna get her out yet. Shes alot smarter than me (obviously).

Shes such a pig, she may go the fish trap, or maybe I can net her while shes sleeping in her fav nem @ nite. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Anyway, its great to learn how clownfishes can have so many different personalities & temperaments & some are exactly alike.
Just like us sometmes "inferior" humans.
 
My first "real" marine fish was an ocellaris (still have her), CB from ORA. She is horrible, and I think it is because they hand feed them at ORA. She tries to bite me anytime my hand is in the tank, and has launched herself out of the tank when my hand was resting above it. She doesn't have a mate nor does she have an anemone, so she isn't protecting either. I have tried to give her little nose flicks, but she could care less. What is especially aggrevating is that she is perfectly peaceful w/ all her fish and invert tankmates -- it is just my hand that she takes offense to.

I don't know that an ocellaris and a skunk could get along w/ one another. I have an orange skunk who decided to pick on my Lubbock's wrasse, which I did not forsee. So I pulled the ocellaris from her tank and put her in the orange skunk's tank, intending to swap them... but it took another two days before I was able to catch the skunk. They went after each other like heavyweight fighters, but now the lubbock's wrasse isn't being hassled anymore.
 
This is Rampage. She will attack me from the time my finger touches the water until I take it out. If I look at her to long she starts chomping the live rock around her Nem. She also doesnt like camera's gawkin at her nem. She has been at war with a Royal Gramma who lives in a nearby hole also.

Blu, if you're lucky she sleeps in/on top of nem.
At night you can literally reach in and pick em up, done it many times.
Usually takes a couple minutes for them to wake even after grabbing, and then they are so spazzy surprised!
To my misfortune, my last maroon slept UNDER nem.
Why do girls enjoy seeing us big guys scream like little girls so much!?LOL

daveocean, she does sleep, in the top of her nem, so we'll what happens in a few weeks when the qt is ready.

I went to my lfs to see the pink skunks, they were quite pretty, but like someone here said, their colors are kind of blaaa & will probley just blend in w/ the colors of my nems.
 
clowns bite. That's their nature. They have teeth. They will draw blood. Try wearing a loud ring. They may attack that instead.
 
wow this thread has scared the bejus outta me! :eek2: im always in my tank fiddling with things and cleaning. i have a mated pair and just added in a rbta last night-dunno if they will take to it hopefully!:D my clowns have always been very passive when im in the tank. the male hides in his clove polyps and the female just watches from a distance. they are VERY nosy though and loveee attention. hopefully they stay so nice and cute!

my tomato bites the crud out of me. lil punk strikes like a cobra. i have beaten him though. i found that if i leave my stainless steel watch on he attacks it instead. leaving my flesh intact
 
when i go into my tank im always wearing rings and bracelets but i try to take them off if i remember because i wasnt sure if it was bad for the water of something
 
Sk8r, I did some 'BLING" on my finger when she bit me, took it off for the pic. But it has been on my finger for as long as she as been in the tank, just so, she was used to it I guess.

You are right, clowns bite & they do have teeth....that grow as they grow. They are just so cute & sweet when they are babies, us newbs dont realize they grow up & protect their nems & territory by instinct. They are in our world at this point, but ouch,
they pack a mean bite as they get older!

Get this... my mom who is 72 yrs old & knows nothing about a saltwater tank, loves my clarki. She says she is the most interesting fish in my tank & has the most personality. When she comes to visit, from Tusc, Al, she is in awe by my tank, mainly due to the fish, as I only have soft corals otherwise.

She told me I was a problem child, but she had to deal w/ me.
She then advised that I get a rubber glove when my hand is in the tank and learn to deal w/her. This comes from a mother who wouldnt even let me have a dog as a child, although I fed every stray dog that showed up in the neighborhood.

So, maybe shes right? Mother knows best? I m sharing this w/ all of you because this is sooo out of character for her. Go figure>>

I have been watching the clarki alot more for the last few days, & my tank is her world, not mine. I am just an observer from the "outside" looking in from her point of view.

My qt tank is up & running again, but I'm thinking I'll use it to add some new coral, which I havent done in a year.

I think this is the most important lesson I have learned in my 2 real years of reef keeping. We dont own our fish, THEY own us.

Darned little wench...............
