Went Zoa shopping today

Well, not really. I really went looking for a sea cuke to see if he will help with my detritus. But I went to a store I had never visited before, Down Under in Garner, NC. Needless to say, I did not leave with just a cuke.

They had a 50% sale on stuff in 3 tanks and 15% off on stuff in other tanks. The 50% tanks had incredibles corals in them but they were all too big for my little nano.

I got 4 different types of Zoas; a huge pc. with brilliant orange skirts and ice blue inside and a yellow mouth, a rusty orange skirted with greenish/blue and an orange mouth, a large round dome of pale and bright pinks with silver mouth and silvery skirts, and a teeny toxic green piece with maybe 6 polyps - brown inside, green skirt, and green mouth.

I also got a cleaner shrimp, a gorgeous pink Coco worm and a HUGE Turbo snail. As I was walking out the door I spotted a neon green dot in a 12DX. It was a single trumpet polyp, sitting there glowing away, so I had to get it.

As I was leaving the owner stopped me and asked if it was my first time there and how I heard about them. He asked what I thought of the store and of their stock. I told them how great I thought their selection was and he said that actually they were pretty emptied out because the sale had already been going on for a day and a half. Even with that I was impressed. The corals were soooo healthy and his prices were very reasonable. Nice to see an owner interested in what a customer has to say.

I've already fragged the largest zoa - it wouldn't fit in the tank otherwise - and I have the pieces spread around. Maybe I'll make some money back soon selling a couple of pieces.

As soon as I have time I'll set up the tripod and get some pics.

sounds awesome... i wish i had a LFS that would get some interesting live stock. overnight shipping is killing me.

Sorry, had to do it! :D

hahaha! I love the Regis shot. I will try to take pics today and get them up. We have the grandkids this weekend so picture taking is a little difficult. If that wasn't fun taking them to the LFS by myself yesterday  But once we discovered they had a little table and chairs, coloring books, and a Nemo video set up for little kids, it was much easier. Great idea!

I just discovered a hitchhiker mushroom on one of the Zoa rocks - it's either a fuzzy or possibly a ricordia, too small for me to tell. Everything is opening up great and even the Coco worm is making appearances and staying out longer and longer.

It is nice to have good lfs around, even though it's an hour long trip it's worth it. Those shipping fees are killers, especially if you only want to buy a couple of small things.

Ok, here are some pictures. Please keep in mind that we are just getting accustomed to this new camera, especially using the macro lens. Plus on the individual shots I forgot to turn of the pump so things are a little blurry. I'll do better next time.

The zoa on the far right bottom of the tank (brown & orangy) is one of them from Minh (CIMulator). I still have to take pics of the rest of the stuff but maybe I'll get to it tomorrow.

The last shot is a picture of my little grand-daughter, Heidi, 18 months old. She and her older brother love the tank and so far haven't attempted to stick their fingers in.:D

I hope these turn out OK - enjoy.

I've been to Down Under for a frag swap, and I was impressed, I wish I wasn't an hour away from there, it's a nice place

That "white" coral is a bleached out porites. I am taking it back to the lfs and let them put it back under better lights. Hopefully it will color up again and be OK. Don't know what I was thinking - polyp extension is good but totally bleached after just a couple of days under pc's.

Camera is Canon digital 350 EOS SLR whatever that all means.

Very NICE ! Great pics. Especially the one with the Granddaughter looking in :) I need to get one like that with mine.
