Wes's cube build

that tank is stunning.
love the cube, love the coral, love it all!

makes me want to get another large tank. *not*

actually, a 28" x28" cube would fit for me....hmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks everyone! I still have a few things to do before the tank is completely finished. Neil, I have a frag of that coral for you. Its on the frag rack healing :)

You're my hero:thumbsup: I'll be looking forward to coming over and seeing your great set-up again! Thanks.

Yeah, those are jawbreakers. They have been spreading like crazy for me. I hope I didn't end up destroying my tank. I did a water change on Sunday and everything was fine with the tank. On Tuesday night I went to check on the tank before work and noticed that my CO2 tank was empty! I checked my ALK and it was at 5.5. I quickly mixed up some ALK and did a slow drip and borrowed a CO2 tank from a friend, hooked it all up and went to work. Wednesday morning ALK back up to 8. All corals seem fine except a branch on my red planet that has some RTN. I'll know for sure in a week if I did some major damage. Well here are some pics to share incase things go south.

I hope that it does no ill affects to your live stock. Your tank is my inspiration for my 93 Marineland DD tank. There is so much room and open space to swim in. Very nice job Wes.

Alk spikes are tough and inevitably seem to be part of life for long-term reefs at one time or another. Not to put a sour note on things, but going back up from 5.5 to 8 in 12/24 hours might cause you more problems than the original drop, which probably occured over a longer period of time. That is what killed me last time...I tried to fix the error quickly, because I wanted to get things back to normal ASAP. Luckily neither of the 2 swings is huge, so you might be okay. Keep us posted.

Thanks again Bryan! My new plan will be to have two co2 tanks and keep one filled at all times. You saved my reef!

Shawn - thanks for the compliment. I really like your aquascape. I'm excited to see your tank all lit up with water. I think I fell in love with cubes when I saw exotic's acrylic cubes in their saltwater department. I'd love to have one that big but I'm limited on size since the living space in my condo starts on the second floor.

Neil - I was worried about the quick jump but I figured the drop most likely happened some time Monday to Tuesday since all was well on Sunday. I felt safe bringing it back up to 8 from Tuesday to Wednesday. Once my ALK is back up to normal I plan to shut off my calrx and check my tanks ALK every hour to estimate how much my tank consumes over a day. As of this morning, everything seems to be in order. I've been keeping a close eye on the more sensitive corals and they look the same. Hope they stay that way (fingers crossed) BTW, your frag is ready for you :) I'll be available all next week if you wanna stop by.

I've had this type of experience as well. Also watch for the risidual effects over the next 2-3 weeks. Good luck Wes, the tank is definitely a looker!
