WAS ANYONE PART OF CVRC?
It went like this - Chemical Valley Reef Club on this site - many, many supporters, many people involved. There would be frag swaps and auctions, 100s of frags, many people showed up.......then it became controlled by a business. Reef Central would not allow a business to control the club so CVR Club had to break away = Chemical valley reef community. Several people did not agree with a business running the club = Appalachian Reef Society on this site was formed on this site.
They both fizzled out 1. ARC on this site because the juice/work behind the club went to CVRC and 2. CVRC because it was a business running a club not hobbyist sharing ideas, swapping frags as it started.
I am a member of both. I buy nearly 100% of my stuff from Specialty Pets in Nitro, Ron/Phil know more about Reef Tanks than anyone I know (except for perhaps Jim in Ashland). A business running a club killed it for everyone last time, not sure it would not happen again.
I would suggest using a club that is already set up on this site - Appalachian Reef Society. It just needs some promotion to get the word out - that is where the store connections come in - Specialty Pets, Fujis, Inland Reef, etc. They are sometimes reluctant because if we are trading we perhaps not buying from them - that is understandable, it is give and take, depending on the perspective.
There was one in Beckley at the bottom of Maxwell Hill, I think it relocated - where? If the guy in Beckley lets you put up a flyer - that helps a bunch.
That is a brief history.
I am always looking for frags local, to buy or trade.
