It is better to do small water changes more often - a lot of trace elements are used up fairly fast so the tank could be depleted of these for several weeks if you only change once a month. The water we be more stable and less likely to shock the system with more small changes. I end up doing 4x 6gallon changes each week and everything seems fairly stable. I have my system plumbed to auto fill a bucket with DI, add salt, let mix, purge 6 gal to drain and refill. i dont have to spend much time ~ 5 minutes to do a water change.

The tank is looking really nice! I love the black shoulder tang and that gorg is killer, probably on of the nicest I have seen.

What do you have in there as far as snails and hermits? I noticed the cucumber, lettuce nudy, and the 2 nassarius. For that size tank it usually take a pretty decent clean up crew. I am sure the tangs are lovin the algae! They will be nice and healthy I am sure.

I don't have any hermits as they kill snails. Here is my clean up crew:
1 Cleaner shrimp
1 Banded Serpent Star
1 Red Serpent Star
1 Sea Lettuce Nudibranch
1 Common Cucumber
1 Queen Conch
2 Nass. Snails
2 Peppermint Shrimp
3 Sand Sifting Cucumbers
5 Margarita Snails
Tangs

I am in the process in adding some more clean up crew.

Oh boy... I have a few more updates... lol The deals around here are just way too good to pass up! I got a Diamond Goby for $10, 5 Blue-Green Chromis for $15, 1 Fire fish for FREE, 1 Nass. Snail for FREE, and 2 white large Feather Dusters for FREE. Will post pictures later today.

Oh boy, oh boy! Got ANOTHER update! LOL! I got a 4 inch Blue Crocea Clam, 1 Nass. snail, 2 hermits, 4 large Feather Dusters, another fish, and some worms all for FREE from locals.

I have an update! I got 1 frag of Pink Pom Pom Xenia that has 11+ stalks, 1 frag of Pink Pom Pom Xenia that has 6 or so stalks, and another frag of Pink Pom Pom Xenia that has 4 or so stalks all for FREE! Will post pictures tomorrow.

Hermits will only attack your snails when their is nothing else to eat in the tank. You should get some red or blue leg drawf hermits crabs. Also get some empty shell and throw in the tank. They will also attack the snails for the shell once the start getting bigger. I have lots of snails and hermits in my tank. And the only attack for the shells; so I picked you some extra from the LFS and theproblem is fixed.

The hermits that I got are dwarf blue legged hermit crabs and I have tons of shells laying around the tank. lol
