Wet Carpet, Any Advise?

Yesterday, My supply to my fuge came apart, dumping about 15 gal. on the living room carpet. I sucked most of it up with my Hoover Steam cleaner and it's still very wet. Fan and de-humidifier running constant. Any one have a similar problem and a sollution? Maybe ServPro? Or am I wasting my time? Thanks for your help, Karl

Odoban (the concentrate you can get at Sam's Club) in your steam cleaner mixed exactly as you do the steam cleaner mixture will put down enough to prevent mildew.

As long as noone in the house detests eucaliptis smell...which will disappate in a few days.


Oh yeah...I forgot...if you have bathroom/kitchen exhaust fans run them to help kick the humidty down in the house while you are letting the carpet dry.

Same thing happened to me, twice. Here is my advice. Pull as much water as possible out of the carpet with a wet dry vac.
DONT add fresh water to get the salt out. I did that the first time and called a carpet guy. In 1 day it mildewed and stunk up the house. Had to replace the carpet. Second time I did what I said above and it dried out in a few days and it was fine. I think the salt retards the mildew. Anyway my two cents. Good luck

Once you suck up most the water, I would recommend using a "dry" carpet cleaner. I know of a carpet cleaner that uses a product called host. Basically, it's a sponge like material that gets worked into the carpet and absorbs everything, dirt odor, water, stains, etc. If you want some contact info on that carpet cleaner, PM me.

Thank you all for the help. I used the Odoban and I'm running fans and a dehumidifier. As frustrating as this hobby can be at times, it's GREAT to have help (Thanks to Reef Central) only a post away. Kustom Karl

I had about 25 gallon flow over a couple times. carpet never was right after that , it was kinda Crusty and hard and the dogs kept lickin it.

yes I believe so... they liked the spice..
when we took the carpet out you could hardly bend it over where all the salt was.

Did you read the post on the cora forum. I used to work for a insurance restoration company the kind that come out for fire,flood and other great acts of god and mankind. You gotta pull that pad and dry both sides of the carpet and treat thoses tack strips with a microbial spray.
