Hello guys, I need some advice from clownfish breeders! Last year I started to breed clownfish (percula) and I was able to raise 3 fish that are still alive today. Although it is not a huge amount I still consider I had a "success" as my plan was to be able to raise at least 1. This year, I started again with the same technique, but it's been 3 times now that I try and after 2 to 3 days, all the larvae are dead.
Here's what I'm doing:
I collect the larvae with a cup and a flashlight from the fish tank on the night they hatch. I transfer them, cup by cup, in a 10g tank with about 3g of water in it. Almost all of the fry is still alive the next morning. The tank has a small heater and an air stone.
I start to feed the fry on the first day with live rotifers. I have a small rotifer culture, in a 1 gallon water dispenser. I feed the fry with about one cup of rotifer culture (with the culture water... could that be the problem? and do I feed enough?), 2 times every day. I feed the rotifers 1 time a day with live phytoplankton.
After 2 days, usually most of the fry is dead. What I see though is that most of the fry is at the surface, swimming head facing the surface (vertically). Then, they fall at the bottom, swim back to the surface a few times and they seem to die a few hours after.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you
