What are good fins?

Heading to st Lucia in February and planning to dive every morning and snorkeling every afternoon, except the Wednesday where apparently I have to show up for my wedding. Lol.

Looking at fins there are thousands of different ones. I feel my Costco specials need to be retired.

Any recommendations?

Any mask recommendations while I'm at it?

Thanks.

I have Oceanic Vortex V-16. I've had them for years and I'm very happy with them. I have two masks. One is mostly a back up. My main mask is a TUSA Splendive 4. I like low volume and it has corrective lenses. TUSA fits my face well.

I was looking at the v12s too.

What's the idea behind the split fin design? Seems like wasting lots of power?

More power with less effort. If you're not going to use them often, I'd go with something good but basic. Sounds like a fun trip.

This will be the first of my bi annual trips to somewhere I can dive and relax. :-)

I don't mind mind spending a bit for something good.

I have some aeris fins that are exactly the same as the oceanic v16. And they work great for me. Good balance for using in strong currents and for little current

Fit is foremast for both. With fins, there is some personal preference involved...best to see if the dive shop will let try some out in their pool. Other than that, my personal preference is for fins that are on stiff side, good power and very good at control with minute motions...which is very good for photography and diving around silty bottoms where you don't want to be making big fin strokes and stirring up the bottom.

The split fin design is great. Most of the smaller "mom and pop" style dive shops will let you try out fins before you purchase them. Masks are all about what fits on your face and you feel comfortable with. Nobody can tell you what mask to get because your face is different than anyone elses.

ive been diving split fin atomics for a few years, really like them.
i had to use my non-split back ups awhile ago, mangled my heel strap, had to wait for a replacement in the mail, total leg strain compared to my trusty atomics.

All the "cool" kids here dive the scubaro seawing nova's. ive seen them in action, and they do scoot pretty darn fast. im going to wait to my current set gets wore into the ground, might give them a try.

Cressi Sub ........... no substitute, just make sure you have stong legs......
Forgot them on a cruise once.......hated the split fin rentals
Been using Cressi fins for many years........

I've owned a few brands, but settled on Mares Volo. They're pricey, but super fast. I use them for Ab Diving as well as warm water recreational diving. My wife got sick of me scooting past her so she got a set too. HUGE difference.
