what are some proper meds for treating cloudy eyes

i got a huma huma trigger that appears to be going blind. the trigger is about 4 years old and this has been going on for about 2-3 weeks. still eats good but almost have to hand feed. the cloudy eyes are very hard to see, by this i mean you have to look at the fish at just the right angle to see slight cloudyness near the top of both eyes. water parameters appear ok. any suggestions?

It doesn't sound like you're dealing with a cloudy eye caused by a bacterial infection. Mostly a single cloudy eye can be attributed to injury or minor bacterial infection. See this thread for more on that:

You may dealing with a vitamin deficiency. Your fish needs certain vitamins to maintain eye sight, as well as to maintain GOOD eyesite. You might want to read this recent thread regarding foods for wrasses, triggers, and carnivores in general:

I'd start pumping Vitamins A & D into your fish immediately. I'd not only soak every meal in a good general vitamin, but I would specifically add cod liver oil directly to its food. Include beta glucan in its food during this time.

lee, the slight cloudyness is near the top of both eyes. i add vita-chem to all the food put in the tank and usually feed formula 1 and 2 frozen foods, krill, silversides, mysis shrimp

Triggers are carnivores and need to eat the whole organism. Your foods come close to meeting that requirement. Get away from all flakes and non-whole foods if you can. For additional recommended diet for this fish, check this out:

My recommendation above is, I think, still valid. You need to get cod liver oil into your fish and follow the recommendations in the above post.

I'm making the assumption your water quality is up to par and your tank is relatively stable.

Your post asked the question about cloudy eye, but you went on to describe the fish as going blind. These are two different conditions, caused by different agents.

The cloudy eye can be caused by a physical injury, fight with a tankmate, a low-level bacterial infection, a scrape, or the onset of a horrible disease. Like Psionidragon says, the treatment depends on the cause. For bacterial infections, either improving water conditions and nutrition or using an antibiotic (and improving water and nutrition conditions) are done.

It depends on what kind of bacteria it is. If you medicate with the wrong medication; you lose your fish, other fishs, and money. Can't go gunho on meds.

I am requoting because you had an expert gave you an advice/suggestion and you don't get it.

You find out diseases or issues through this section or other online areas. You post pictures and ask questions. There are several sites that has pictures for comparison.

There does seem to be a line of broken communications here. As I wrote, cloudy eye and blindness are not the same. A fish doesn't go blind from a cloudy eye. You've got a fish going blind, not suffering from cloudy eye. I don't know how to make this any planer.

If your intention is to treat the fish for a disease or condition it doesn't have, I'm unable to be of further help to you. Good luck! :rollface:

perhaps we should start over... lee i appreciate that u r trying to help so i will take it from there. i dont believe it is injury related and do use a vitamin additive to food but not a fat additive so i will look into that. about foods offered, there are others but not as frequent as those listed earlier. of course i dont want to treat a fish for a condition it does not have, it was just strange to see the diminished vision appear overnight. it has not got worse or better. water conditions are good(small weekly water changes)so i will go from there.
