What are the possiblities to explain this?

I want to get suggestions on what can be done to help this fish, before I call as a concerned customer. This fish is on display in a non-fish retail store.

I included a picture of the lionfish for ID (that is in the same tank as this blue tang) to see if there is a possibility that this type of lionfish could have attacked this blue tang and resulted in these marks. ...or is this a fish disease?

They need to be soaking all foods in vitamins and feeding high quality foods and a variety of food. Poor guy obviously isn't being taken care of

Thanks for all the responses! I will call the store and see if I can speak with the person responsible for taking care of the fish at this store. Hope the little guy gets better.

I can't seem to figure out how to remove the pictures from the original posting. If anyone knows how, please let me know. There is no need for those sad pictures to be posted anymore, as I got the information I needed to offer suggestions to the people taking care of the fish.

When a P. miles (the lionfish) comes down with HLLE, that's really bad news. As mentioned, water quality is huge, but malnutrition also plays a large part in the problem.

What are the fish being fed? I'm betting the lion is getting feeder goldfish or rosy reds. At the very least, I'd add some Vitamin C to the tank, as it can be assimilated thru the gill structures. If the fish are eating prepared foods, I'd bet some B1 (Thiamine) into them as well.

As for removing the photos, these are the types of things folks need to see...what happens from neglect/improper care.

oh, poor guy, with proper care and nutrition it can be back to its glory.
Tang rescue! reminds me the dog Fiona.
