Ok every body has there thoughts on what give good growth in sps . I have read tons of things people think gets good growth and i now alot are going to say the same the here now . So lets see what every body view on this . And remember in the ocean thay have better growth then home tank and get less of somthing we all think thats key for ower tank for growth but its is not.

I think ever since I upgraded to all 400w MH and do 50gal water changes once a week my growth has been increasing very faster then normal.
Not putting my hands in my tank works great for me also i see.
And last Feeding my sps 1-2x a week helps too IMO.

you want fast growth?
use HGH
keep the temp between 84 and 85
Use a dual light cycle
maintain perfect stabillity
score the coral with a scalpel
overfeed the right foods
use carbon if its a mixed reef
Dose everything

you can do all the above and you will get perhaps an extra 1/4 inch a month
OR
just keep your water clean and stable and enjoy good growth.

so this is a thread where you get people to post their opinions then smack them down? if so please close this thread no need to have mine is bigger than yours in this club

+1

Real facts should be from well documented researched and accepted practices. Reputable science articles, and journals. I'm very interested in scientific reading and learning more about our hobby.

The human growth hormones is interesting but unattainable.

High temps can be a challenge but i def get more growth in the summer.

Whats a dual light cycle?

Perfect water all the time is the true challenge!

Scoring is also an interesting idea, however i dont think it can be done too frequently as it may cause the coral to concentrate more on healing. I know when I do bone surgery I score or drill holes into the bone until bleeding to stimulate boney growth.

Good stuff.

Aren't high temps problematic due to lower O2 concentrations? Is there some way to balance that deficiency? I'm new to reefing and don't have a single SPS yet (don't plan to for quite a while) but definitely would like to continue learning.

Love the anecdote on scoring bone, Doc. Good stuff indeed.

I'll bet someone is laughing when you try to obtain HGH for "stimulating coral growth". Be great to know if it works though.

all those where just some of the "snake oil" ideas some work and most dont I was being funny. I know it's hard to tell with me.

and doc dual light cycle means some people say you get better growth with 2, 5 hour light cycles per 24 hours than with one 10.

From what ppl say and to state the "snake oil" theory's that people say. It has been proven to do water changes, and very stable enviorments.

Anthony i love you man but please try to write in a way we from earth will be able to understand you.

I will make it clear for those not understanding: the snake oil bs does not work. It is all dosing this and dosing that, who is doing what to get this and colors come from that, because I am dosing this, and that.

Keep up on water changes test alot and keep water clean with the changing of the rodi units and a low nutrition system of the tank. Have a good clan up crew and keep up on cleaning out your skimmers, carbon, and gfo on a weekly rutine and you will be good.

The lower O2 can be dangerous for fish, corals not so much.

KISS.....Keep It Simple Stupid.
The biggest thing that slows down growth is change; moving things around, infrequent feedings, or frequent feedings but a weak filtration system.

Their are way to many variables in a reef tank, and that is what makes it such an art....no one is required to play be the "rules" we all have are own methods for achieving the same goal.

I think we all forget this when people reach out for help, their tank doesn't behave like mine or your, so a solution isn't always as simple as cutting a pasting what I/you do and then applying that to their tank.

Tanks are like dogs...no two behave the same so just cause yours needs a newspaper waved in its face so that it behaves doesn't mean mine wont do just fine with nothing more then a swift glance. :wildone:
