I know, I know I'm opening up a can of worms. Not my intention. Just curious. So far I've used Oceanic with no problems. (Knock on wood). All I need to add is Seachem Reef Carbonate few times a week and all seems well.:D

Coralife salt here and aside from a small bout with IO ( which I personally don't like ) , have used it for a year..... I like the way Coralife desolves and does not precipitate in my mixing container .. ( IO does/did )....

Pure ocean water.

How do you get Ocean water to Vegas? I want to know the secret because it would be wonderful to have a supply here!

chirocato, try to keep this poll going aggressively somehow, I'd really be interested to see the main salt being used. I use TM, btw.

i think its more important to find a brand of salt thats available to your locally, and sticking with it. i started with kent, went to IO, did not like it at all, went back to kent. i will be sticking with kent!

kent here.

I find the alk to be low. fresh mixed 1.25sg water is only about 2.75-3mg/l, I end up dropping a bit of baking soda in.

but the other parameters are better than Ive found in others.

Yeah, I get the same with Oceanic. Seems like the higher the SG the lower the Alk. According to the chemistry I learned it's likely due to high Mg levels.

I have found when I add baking soda to bring up alk levels my pH crashes.

what i didnt like about IO is my water was always cloudy(slightly), my calc levels were always low, and the alk was always high. i have done alot of reading and just come to the conclusion that IO salt doesnt like being mixed with other salts. so im sticking with kent. if i start another tank i may give IO another chance, and just start it out using it. IO is one of the more popular salts. and many large aquariums use it. the only bad info i have read about IO salt usually comes from people that started with one brand and switched to IO.

For my nano I mix oceaniac and instant ocean 50/50, I have only been doing this about 3 weeks, but I can tell you IO has no problem being mixed with oceaniac. The numbers for the mix are far better than the numbers for either alone too.

Whiskey

Currently using Oceanic, I've never seen my tank so clear, corals are doing well, and have'nt had any algae problems that have been described here on RC. Maybe because I'm using RODI water instead of RO or tap.

It is frequently trucked in from Cali. A few of our LFS have it.

I've used IO for more then 4 years and never had a problem. I'm giving Seachem a try right now. So far so good. A little more coraline popping up actually.
