What causes Cyano and how do we beat it

I am dealing with cyano on my sand bed and on some rocks. I have tried siphoning the cyano out of the tank. Only for it to come back again. I cant seem to understand what the cause of the cyano is. My paramaters are great, coral and fish all look very healthy. I am running at ULN paramaters now. I am thinking of doing three days of lights out. I understand this can be a temporary fix. I don't know what else to do. I changed the rowa phos media. Any advice is much appreciated.

My tank bas similar issue like yours. Both my NO3 and PO4 are undetectable by Hanna, but cyano still happen. My coral grow great but ugly sand bad with cyano. I believe it has some thing to do my DOM and POM high, but so far I have given KZ Snow and CC treatment, but has not yet seen significant change. Anyway, I will treat it slowly instead of quick, since SPS are happy and steady tank is my first priority.

Hope you can find a solution and I might benefit from it.

Good luck.

I believe this to be true as well. DOC, DOM, POM I think play more of a role in cyano problems then NO3/PO4. I have always kept the latter near undetectable levels and always battled cyano. I recently did a 80% water change (matched parameters as perfect as I could) and now I have the upper hand. Cyano is still evident but not nearly as much.

whats your flow rate? i had trouble with cyno with to little of flow. I have 4 mp10's on my 90g now and have not had any cyno at all with the combo of more flow and low nutrients. Also cyno is a bacteria, not really an algae. just a little tid bit.

i was fighting cyano for a couple months till i got my hands on a bottle of Fauna Marine Bakto Blend, and within 2 weeks, 95% cyano was gone. now i have just a little on the wall and alittle of the sand. best product ever

I only battle cayno bacteria when I have sand beds, I used to just siphon it out when I was doing water changes it usually aided in eradicating the problem. Hope that helps!

Where did you find BAKTO BLEND?? I've been searching online for awhile and can not find it in the USA.

I had a some cyano in my tank a couple months ago. To get rid of it, I did a few extra water changes and siphoned it out daily. Took a few weeks to eradicate it.
