What Corals do You Consider Invasive?

As we get ready to restart the new 130g system, we are thinking a lot about the corals we liked... and didn't like... so much in the old system. My pandoras were growing rapidly, but probably the most invasive thing in the tank was the clove polyps. Very pretty coral, but once they travel to another rock its a lifetime of fighting them.

I had some palys that I had 'saved' and were getting close to that invasive status as well. I plan to be much pickier this time and curious to as what specific corals you might intentionally avoid for that reason.

Invasive, meaning I would not put them in my tank, IMO:

Xenia
Clove Polyps
Anthelia
Green Star Polyps

Well, technically, any coral could become invasive in the correct conditions.

To add:

Certain palys (especially brown varieties)
Kenya Tree Coral
Most types of mushrooms (especially your cheaper varieties like green rhondactis, red disvosoma, etc)

Once they get going - most forms of montipora but easier to control with easy fragging

Also pocillopora (especially green varieties) can spawn and become invasive

It really depends but yea

All entrusting montipora. I wouldn't care as much if my other SPS could beat it but it's winning most wars with my other nice sps. It's starts at the base then starts to encrusted up killing as it goes.

I agree with all of those, although I do miss my giant back wall of GSP. I am contemplating a magnetic frag mount on the back to start a frag and let it grow on the wall, but I totally understand what you mean about it being invasive. mine had grown around a nice frag of polys and somehow it worked... the palys didn't extend beyond it and the GSP seemed to stop at them....

Kenya Tree Coral
they grow incredibly well in my nano tank lol. I have a bunch of frags from my last tank. I hear you. when growing well they drop babies like crazy that you're constantly picking out.

this is new to me! We have had a lot of mushrooms but I did not have much luck with them reproducing at all.

encrusting makes sense. We will likely run plating montis as my wife really likes them and they're pretty easy to frag but your recommendations are duly noted.

sorry I ghosted after making this post, life has been hectic. I hoped to have water in the new tank this weekend but minor delays along the way. it takes me time to make sure I like the way its setup, trust the plumbing, cabinet, and leveling...
