how deep are your pockets?

well pockets arent to deep in all honesty for 2 reasons
1. new home-itus (recently just purchased my first house)
2. since im pretty new i dont wanna go total expensive until i get some experience under my belt

i would get some rarer rics or zoas. maybe a red or non rare monty cap. i have a red monti under 150 watts of pc and it grows very well.

i got 1 mushroom in the tank at the moment a nice purple/neon one... wanted maybe a red one but i heard they like lower flow...my tank has been up around 3-4weeks now......

is it to soon for some leathers or something...i like the idea of a monti i got the perfect spot for it.....are they totally photosynthetic(sp? will i have to feed it anything other then light?)

If only 3 weeks, I would suggest waiting before getting into the "harder" corals.

As for leathers, if you are planning on getting any SPS in the future, may want to think about it. While it doesn't always happen, there are certain combos of leathers and SPS that don't mix. Has something to do with the chemicals released from the leathers.

ok thanks todd, good advice i guess also should see whats at the LFS.. i want to pickup another 5-10 snails and another 5 hermits maybe a emerald crab while im at it to finish up my clean up crew considering i got 16snails, and 4 blue leg hermits as my entire cleanup crew atm and its not quite enough

thanks everyone

I agree on waiting til your tank matures a little. But as far as which corals to get, it's really just a matter of personal preference. With those lights, you're not limited, just find something that sparks your interest and ask away.

You can go either stony or softy. Your lighting is better set up for stony.
One of the easiest stony starters is caulestra. [candycane] or frogspawn.
Corals IME actually like new tanks IMHO because the trace elements are about the highest they will ever be. I've put lps stony in at 2 weeks and I've had xenia, mushrooms and bubble coral actually survive an initial cycle [really live rock.] Keep up your water changes religiously, test obsessively while doing it, and there's no reason you can't go lps stony pretty fast.

You do know that lps has to be positioned carefully: some like bubble have a six inch reach after dark; and bubble, unlike other stonies, is a low-light coral.

You will get about 3 months in before you have to suddenly start worrying about calcium supplementation and topping off with kalk: that's when the corals all take off and grow at once.

I would not get sps early on, because they are a bit more fragile and fussy about nutrient [they want low nutrient.] If you decide to go sps, you will need to start trading your lps off, not because they're incompatible, but because lps need more nutrient in the water than will make the sps happy, and it's a smallish tank where arranging zones is more difficult.
