What do dying zoanthids look like?

I have some zoas that have been sorely abused by a) the urchin and b) the pistol shrimp.
They've been moved to (hopefully) a safer spot, but some of them are looking pretty bad. Besides not opening, they also seem to be doing quite a bit of sliming.
1) Does this pose a danger to tank in general?
2) Some of the polyps in the colony are okay - should I try to separate them from the sick ones?

Thanks as usual......

well.... where are the zoanthid experts?

general info: sliming is bad. See if you can blow slime away and (assuming environmental conditions are ideal) look for a pred.

not a expert, but I do not think a dying zoa polyp's would harm the tank(as in chemical release)

The colony is stressed now,I would not mess with it..a dying polyp will melt away most of the time..)

Lizz ..go to the zoa forum ans ask the same questions there..those guys (well some) know their zoas..
