Hes not eating flake foods or tigger pods or arcti-pods from Reef Nutrition. also not eating the Green Marine Algae by Seadweed Select that is clipped to the inside of the tank...
i havent seen him eat one thing i given the rest of the fish, he just picks off rocks and sometimes nips at my orange sponge (wich if that makes him happy, i don't mind) lol

SOMEONE HELP PLEASE?

Thanks

Try some of the basics first.

Mysis
Enriched Brine (Frozen & Live)
Fresh Clam (on the 1/2 shell)
NLS Pellets (1mm)

Also adding to todd's list, some live blackworms would be great to try too. One of those things should work.

Thanks guys. but the Mysis wasnt interesting him either. i saw the LFS owner feed the tank of fish that he was in and he didnt seem interested. as i was watching this guy for a while in the pet store. so i figured this angel would eat everything else and thats why when i brought him home, i chose to feed him other things than mysis, just assuming he didnt like it.
i dont even know what clam on the 1/2 shell even means. never heard of nls pellets or blackworms. do u think my LFS will carry this stuff. i know they have brine but are these other foods rare ? did i make a bad decision with this angel?

If it wasn't interested in food you probably should have passed but...

you have the fish now...

so. Clams on the half shell are just littleneck clams from the seafood section of your grocery store or seafood market. I microwave them for a few seconds so they start to open then use a knife to cut them open. You have to cut their adductor muscles then they just flop open and you drop them in the tank for the fish to feed on.

Live blackworms may or may not be available at the LFS but you can order them from sources online. blackworms

NLS just stands for new life spectrum. It is a high quality dry feed that many people use for an easy substitute to fresh foods.

Good luck!

+1 live blackworms.
Many pet stores carry them.
Not tubifex.
Not bloodworms.
Ask for BLACKworms.

They are notoriously difficult to to feed unless they are eating in the store. If yours is picking however, you've got a shot.

Both of mine go nuts for live blackworms.
The smaller one was only an inch long and very thin when purchaced. Started it on Cyclopeez and live blackworms to fatten it up before putting it in the display.

Also, try frozen angel/butterfly mix.

I also want to second the NLS pellets. I've gotten several finicky eaters (including a singapore and a flagfin angel) to try them before they took anything else.

Wow guys thank you very much! i really appreciate it. looks like i got some shopping to do haha.
thanks again!

Why did you buy it if you didn't see it eat? I know they are terribly cute & attractive and all. But You may have just bought a big heartache.
Oh well, you did, so I wish you the best of luck with it!

Sincerely,
Matthew

i bought it cuz i wanted to. bottom line. i trusted that my LFS knew it ate so whatever, im not a reef nerd like you Mathew. sorry, i effed up.
but now im doing my best to make sure i find something for it to eat. relax buddy i got this covered.

sincerely,
reef a-hole :)

Had it a week an 1 day. yea i tried the clams and frozen stuff 2nite and i saw him nibling on something, i was peeking through the rocks trying to see what it was but im gonna try those 2morrow night, hopefully get a better reaction the second time around

Hopefully, it will continue. But these guys are notorious for being finicky.
And I don't take any offense at being called a Reef Nerd! LOL
Maybe a Nerf Herder, but not the former!
I wasn't picking on you, either. If I'd be angry at anyone, it would be the LFS, but they are in a business after all.
BTW, I'm now trying my 2nd Bi-color angel. Call me an optimist, the first lasted less than 18 days. A species with a WORSE track record than your angel..

I have my Singapore for nearly 2 years. I started him on fresh mussels and clams. It started to eat frozen preparations after about a month. Are you Qt'ing the fish and treating for parasites?

Singapore is a slow starter and will never gorge down food.

Start with frozen brine shrimp, then chopped up shrimp and then into a frozen food of a good blend of veggies and shrimp/clam/scallop etc.

Just wanted to thank the forum for this info. I was having problems with my Singapore angel. Very skittish, and would not eat for over a week. But following the recommendations here, I put out a clam on the 1/2 shell in the area where the fish hid most of the time, and he took right to it.

Cheers,

They are shy even after being in a tank for a while.

I weaned mine on blackworms for two months before putting it in my main tank. The two I have now nibble any algae (nori, seaweed) I put in the tank and eat mysis, cyclopeez, clam, squid, shrimp, mussels, you name it.

Oddly, they nipped coral at first, but stopped after a few months.

Funny. I had a Singapore and he ate everything I gave him (mysis, frozen formula 2, NLS pellets, live black worms). This fish was also far from shy and was the tank bully. Did well for 6 months, grew, was nice and fat, and then I found him dead one morning. Still looking for another that will eat.
