As per title please. I currently use lance fish but I would like to vary the diet a little and should I use an enriching agent?

Thanks, Dave

I feed mine cubed sea food. I also use a hypodermic syringe (for Insulin) and inject Selcon into the food rather than soaking it. They get much higher dose and no waste or cloudy water.
I don't like to use small whole fish sell for aquarium food unless I get live ones (live fishing bait). Frozen one for aquarium are too expensive but more importantly, always smelly which mean they are spoiled.

I buy scallops, shrimp, fresh fish.

I cut it all up and put it in a ziplock bag, spread out, and put in freezer. Then I bang the bag once and it all falls to the bottom and take out a peice or two at random.

I usually make it dime to nickle size pieces, lately, but I used to ONLY do pee size.

Drop it in a cup of tank water, let it thaw while I check out and do the daily maint (5 minutes) and then feed away.

But deff always use FRESH.

but if you use it frozen isnt that the same as using frozen lance fish?

The problem with frozen lance fish or silver sides sold as aquarium food is that it's not governed by the same rules as human food. Aquarium food can be thawed and frozen multiple times during shipping and storage. Whole fish tend to spoil very rapidly. Human food is controlled by much stricter standards. They may both be frozen when you get them, but human food is much less likely to be spoiled than aquarium food.

I feed my gig any seafood I can get. I prefer cooked seafood, but if that's not available, I'll feed raw. My gig has had a large variety of foods. Many different types of fish, shrimp, crab legs, and it really seems to be fond of turbo snails.

Peace

I always thought that you should feed uncooked seafood

I know there are many people that believe this, but there's really no evidence to support such a notion. The only argument I've heard to support using uncooked food only, is that these animals eat raw food in the wild. Well... There was a time when we ate nothing but raw food as well. Arguably, as soon as we started cooking our food our brains tippled in size.

Cooking food begins to break down the proteins making it easier for digestion to extract nutrients. Basically, when food is cooked, the digestion process starts before the food is eaten. So, an anemone would be able to obtain more nutrition from an ounce of cooked shrimp than an ounce of raw shrimp.

While what EC stated is correct, cooking also destroy some vitamin and some complex molecues that anemone may need. I think EC anemones is doing just fine so this may not be a significant problem. However short of a few essential vitamins may not kill the anemone, but may just keep their health from being optimal.

The most important thing is that anemone, without a brain, cannot tell if food is spoiled. If their tentacles detects certain chemical in the "food" he will eat it. Spoiled food will add a huge amount of bacterial into the inner of the anemone and will most likely kill him.

food for thought this thread, think I may get a bag of frozen food. I may also buy sone fresh fish and cut it up and freeze. This way I can ensure that its not defrosted multiple times.

Thanks Gents, Dave
