What else can I feed my New Powder Brown

I had some "Tang Heaven" algea that I was growing and he/she went through that in two days. I have been putting NORI sheets on clips and they are eating it already too. I just want to give them a little more to eat. I don't have much algea in the tank so I want offer as much as needed to him/her.

Thanks

Hey... i just got a PBT too last night!

I got him from ebay -- the prettiest i have seen in a while. He acclimated great and already eating flakes!

Good luck with yours!

10-4....I got those...I will offer some tonight and see what happens. I haven't got the anthias to eat yet. But working on a garlic food mixture for them.

Any ideas on those would be good too.

For a brand new fish, I usually wait a day or two to feed. Gets em good and hungry. Then I introduce food slowly (i.e. not too much at first). That's in my QT, though, so I don't have other fish to feed.

I haven't kept Anthias, but from my reading I think they need a varied diet -- like maybe formula 1 and formula 2, maybe some cyclopese for treats...

Wild anthais can be tough; some never eat in captivity and perish. I have a purple queen that refused to eat until I fed frozen brine and left all the Tunzes on full blast. I think the food moving fast entices their natural feeding instict, and they go after it before even getting a chance to see what they're eating. The exact same food it turned down with the circulation lower in the tank.

Feed it anything it wants to eat! :) Kidding. MIne eats just about anything I drop in the tank. mostly flake, but loves the tang heaven, formula 2 flake and jsut aobut any mixed frozen. also liked cyclopeze and such... they are hogs, and the more they eat, the more they poop.

Do you have a good source for Tang Heaven. Not the dry sheets but the live?

I would love to get some more. The LFS haven't had any in a while.

What kind of anthias are they? Some are pretty easy to keep if fed well but some are almost impossible.

If I am not mistaken those are purple queen antias and are very hard to keep. I could be wrong since it has been a long time since I have fooled with anthias. I actually bought a few and never got them to eat no matter what I fed thme.

Yea I think that is what they are. I have gotten two of them to eat some frozen soaked in garlic....so crossing my fingers.

Good luck. Some people say they are impossible to keep. I don't think very many reef creatures are truly impossible to keep. I just think we haven't figured out what it takes yet. Getting them to eat is good.

I think I was mistaken.. when I feed frozen it is emerald Entree' But then again, what fish dont like Emerald Entree'. I feed it with a chunk of Cyclopeze about half the size of the cube and after the big stuff is all gone, all my fish go after that cyclopeze. Stinky stuff, but talk about putting meat on fish bones! Plus, Xenia, Polyps and other corals seem to like it too...try some of ti for your anthias. it might be the ticket....

Those look like Pseudanthias tuka (Purple Anthias). They are similar in difficulty to Purple Queens (Psuedanthias pascalus)......unforunately they are very hard to get to eat in captivity and even the ones that do eat usually waste away in a few months. A good way to provide food for difficult to feed anthias is through a large fuge.
My disbars, which are considered fairly difficult to keep, really like small mysis so you might try some of those.

thats exactly what i thought they were. This is a good lesson to always research anything you want to put in your tank. I found out the hard way when i started out that buying something before i knew what i was buying was usaully a mistake. Not saying you did wrong but i never trust anything i buy even if it looks good in the lfs or the lfs tells me there good fish to keep untill i research first and know what im buying and not to be negative but Like most already said they are hard to keep and will most likely not make it but its always a lesson learned.

They were ordered as Purple Queens. After looking at some pics online, I would have to agree they are just purples.
Live brine is what I use for new fish. Be diligent and patient.
I just got 20 of them for a maintenance guy in Denver for 5 different systems. I asked him about the hardiness and he told me they are not as hard to keep as people say. He said if they were that hard to keep, he sure wouldn't put them in high scale clients tanks. Good pic of all three.

I have seen some say they do eat well once they start eating but all of a sudden they just stop eating and die. I havnt read any reports of them living for more the 4 months but maybe some have had them live longer but as much research as ive done on them i havnt seen any positive reports of them living for that long. but i havnt kept them myself so i cant say my opinion is from my own experinces with them but from anyone elses experiences with them that i have read said they didnt live very long so i just take it they must not be an easy fish to keep but I wish you luck and hope you can prove alot of people wrong because they are beautiful fish and i would love to see that they can actually be kept alive .
