I purchased a yellow tang from Drs F&S. It only eats frozen food. It only eats Cyclopeeze, frozen brine shimps, krills and anything thats frozen. I also feed my whole tank Marine S and formula one and formula but the yellow tang will not touch it.

I also have seaweeds in the tank and it nips it once a while.

Its stomach is starting to sunken it.

What do you feed them so I can adjust it to my diets.

Thanks

AoeBombcat,

Thank you for your post. While the Yellow Tangs are housed at our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility we feed them a variety of frozen foods such as, Gamma Shrimp, Krill, Brine Shrimp, and Mysis Shrimp. They are also supplemented with Julian Sprung Sea Veggies.

Hello! We are posting again to clarify information regarding your Yellow Tang. Your Yellow Tang was not a Diver’s Den specimen and was shipped instead from our California location. However, the foods your tang received at our California facility are listed correctly in the above post. Yes, we do like to spoil all our specimens!

It sounds like you are offering a nice variety of foods. In your Yellow tangs new home, we recommend offering plenty of marine based seaweed and algae as well as the meaty foods. Doing so will strengthen the tangs immune system, reduce aggression and improve overall health. Please continue to offer dried seaweed that you tie to a rock or you may use a veggie clip, at least 3 times per week. (Please remove any uneaten portions.) Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad and Ocean Nutrition are all suggested as easy to use and are ideal products for this purpose. Also Garlic and Selcon are both good products to soak your foods in and your tang will derive many benefits from eating meaty food soaked in these. You may also wish to cut back a bit on the meaty foods, allowing your tang to be more interested in the algae foods.

We hope you find this information useful and wish you the best of luck with your new arrival! Please let us know if we can be of any additional help.

Donna, yes, I do feed the whole tank daily. Its a mix of 5 different frozen foods with 3 types of pellets (Marine S, Formula 1 & 2 ). So I use 5 cubes of frozen food in 2 days. I also add the 1.5" X 1.5" purple and green seaweed to the tank on a veggie clip. I take out the uneaten seaweed the next day and replace with new ones. But 99% of them time it all eaten.

I do add garlic extrac and selcon directly to the tank. I add 1 drop per 10 gallon.

So should I soak the food it instead?

Thanks for the information additional.

Oh, I like to spoil my fishs too!! They eat better then I am. :)

aoeBombcat,

Thank you for the detailed description of your feeding! You may wish to try soaking your foods with proper amounts of the Selcon & Garlic. This allows you to know that when they consume the food, they are also consuming the vitamins and garlic. We find this method to be very successful for our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility specimens and many of us who work here also use this method in our own tanks. If you decide to try this, please let us know how it works for you!

I have a couple YT from LA and they really like the Julian Sprungs purple aglae. If feed both green & purple, but they always eat the purple first. I haven't tried the brown yet.

Thanks all, here is the update. A few days after I post here the YT starts to eat pallets, its stomach is no longer flat. It loves the purple seaweed, then green seaweed but doesnt like red seaweed all.

Anyway, its happy I am happy.

aoeBombcat,

Thank you for the great update on your Yellow Tang! It’s amazing to hear how each fish prefers different colors of seaweed! You are so right, when our fish are happy, we are happy!
