What I Learned Today...

I learned or renforced a couple things today:

1) The difference between PVC and CPVC is more than the letter C or the yellow pigment in the pipe. Who would thing that two different colored 1" pipes would not be equal, and in this case they are very unequal. you see, PVC is 1" inside diameter wille 1" CPVC is 1" outside diameter. (There is no CPVC in California)

2) Never cut into your main water line after 9pm (when the closest Home Depot is 30 minutes away. You see, once you make that cut there is no going back. 9:20 is a bad time to find out the difference between PVC and CPVC.

3) Always double think everything. (See PVC v. CPVC story) I mean who has not flooded their living room because they had a great idea and just went with it. Who else has had to tell their wife that she would not beable to Flush, shoer, brush or anything until I get to Home Depot and bank.

4) 30 minute drives can be done in 15 with enough motivation (I was not having the you can't shower conversation again, yes I have had it before).

Anyway, this fairy tale ended just like they all do. Prince charming made it to home depot as they were locking the door. The nice guy in pluimbing laughed and gave him the proper parts. And best of all, Prince Charming does not have to sleep on the couch tonight!

Hazah!

Look, I have only had, one, ok 2 floods

Oh there is also the time I electrauted my wife, that was a good one.

That day I learned GFCI is a good thing.

oh yea, there was the night the BTA got loged in the overflow, that was about 25 gallons in the carpet....

So I have a long, but but good list of mistakes... what ya saying????

LOL! For the love of fish, water and reefs...

WarDaddy, you really found a way to give her a little zap from the tank, how... Hm. Uh, I mean; just incase I want to avoid doing that... Yeah that's what I meant... Lol ...Jk :)

So yu really want to know...

I had a 55 gallon sea horse tank.
This tank was a litlle different than the normal tank, it was sumpless and run by a canister, HOB skimmer and a HOB refuge.
I had to feed those little guys a LOT. So to keep up with the protine I went out an bopught a real good skimmer, Deltec MCE 600.

Well I though I had the skimmer dialed in after a weekend of watching it close, and off to work I went.

My wife went to run errands.

When she came home, OF COURSE there was water on the floor and it was my damn tanks fault. She called me and described the situation. I advised her to unply the skimmer...

Oh several lessons were learned real good that day:

she grab the plug and got a good health zap. Thank fully she was not properly grounded.

So what did I learn that day...

1) No matter how good the skimmer, a bag of carbon can, and will, block the outpu enopugh to cause water to flow out the collection cup and onto the floor (goto Deltecs website and check out the skimmer design)

2) DRIP LOOP, it is not in EVERY instrustion book just for no good reson.

3) GFCI, it can save your marriage.

see it went down like this...
The carbon bag restriced flow through the skimmer. The water filled the collection cup and then took the path of least resistance down, and that was the power cord. Of cousre I had a tempory extention cord there to power the Deltec until I could get a better solution in place. So the water quite litterly was flowing right into the plug. Wife saw plug, grabed plug, got zapped. Then being the smart lady she is, she unplugged it from the wall end of the extention cord, called me a few names, and hung up on me.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

California...that foreign country off the west coast of Nevada and Arizona.
Yo Brian, is CPVC known to cause cancer in laboratory animals, or what??? No CPVC in California. Or is it an earthquake thing???
That is one funny story!!!

CPVC

CPVC

CPVC has been finally allowed for use in this decade, in the state of California. It must have been awhile since you have been there.. I never have issues with the plumbing, I let the wife do it:)
