What is going on?

Been kind of quite lately guys. Hey Caveman where are you? Dennis you have been sort of quiet as well.

I was wondering if you guys had disappeared and how things are going with the club.

There was going to be an election once upon a time. I have not heard anything about that, and it looks like the SLASH website has not been updated either.

Haven't heard from you and just wanted to make sure someone was keeping Nanook in check.

Howie

It has been very quiet from a "Board of Director's" standpoint. For this I am sorry. I will now defer this question to the Presidente and Vice Presidente...I am only the lowly treasurer.

I am Presently Present, you are just not looking hard enough.

Election â€"œ didn’t have a meeting July 1st there should be an announcement of those interested so the membership has time to decide. Will PM membership with an update as soon as there is one.

Website - is in the process of migrating to a new server, establishing a web staff other than myself. More to come….

Nanook â€"œ No one can keep his stubborn az in check not even me while he is kicking mine.

Steve - must be on vacation with Chelsey as they are unavailable currently??

What else you got?

Photo Contest and Reefer of the Month too.

Photo contest â€"œ The last contest June we still need people to vote. May along with June should be announced in the first edition of the sentinel still in the works.

Reefer of the Month â€"œ just like the Photo contest is in the works, will be announced in the sentinel. This reminds me I need to get things going for a July/August Reefer. Summer months we might as well double up. Less participation.

Membership cards â€"œ will be available in a few weeks shooting for next meeting. Treasurer and President are cutting the check this week.

SLASH Gear coming this fall possibly.

Yes it is the time of year happens every year. Still there hope to see you guys soon.

Help Wanted Secretary â€"œ anyone good at taking notes and typing them up. Team Player and loves to give opinions and be apart of club decisions to propose to the membership. PM me asap. Thanks

Help Wanted Website Maintenance â€"œ anyone wanting to learn basic web site maintenance. Writing .htm files utilizing .php will try to teach anyone willing to learn.
PM me if interested. Thanks

Rams SLASH VP

The check has been sent for the membership cards. Nook sent it off yesterday and once it gets to its destination it will take a week and a half to get them into our hands.

As far as the election goes, we will be having it next month. We WERE going to have it previously but there was a bit of a mix-up as to who the candidates were. We will be setting the dates for the election after the next board meeting which will be next Tuesday.

Regarding these board meetings, I'm wondering when this is going to occur, as was posted as a response to my questions back on March 20th:

Quote from Greg:
The board is dedicated to the concept that EVERYTHING concerning our club will be strictly above board and honest. All minutes will be posted for review by the membership including the minutes of all executive board meetings. We will have nothing to hide from the membership. Our decisions will be made a matter of public record available for inspection by everyone.

It just seems to me that alot of the confusion about some issues, from the logo to appointment of various other people who are doing various things in the club now to whatever, would have been much clearer to me/others if this had been instituted as promised. Also, as someone who can pretty much only attend weekend meetings, to my knowledge there has only been one official weekend meeting set up in the 4 months that the club has been in existence (on my anniversary, unfortunately). At this rate that means that I would be able to attend perhaps 3 meetings in a year. Do you foresee this club continuing in this type of schedule? thank you

Dave,

Are you insinuating that there is some dishonesty going on here? If so, you have never been more wrong.

I have no idea where you're getting that I'm "insinuating" anything. The quote talks about posting the board minutes for everybody to see. When questions regarding the logo and some other things that came up arose, it was stated that they were discussed at board meetings and the decisions had been made during those meetings. I was asking about the posting somewhere of the board meeting minutes for public view so that everybody could see what was being discussed, planned, decided on, etc, as was alluded to in the quote, which would have probably avoided any confusion on those issues. I haven't even seen anything that could be deemed as "dishonest" anyway, I'm simply asking about the status of the club and some of the promised benefits.

Dave,

I'll explain it one more time on the logo.

The logo was decided upon BEFORE the club was even a club ... perfectly legitimate. Nothing hidden from anyone as NOONE was a member. The board had the right to decide anything they like.

When Mark raised the question we decided to let the membership vote on it. Of all of the people who voted, I believe that 3 voted against it and all other votes were for it.

As far as posting the minutes ( or anything else concerning the website ) goes:

Minutes of meetings before the club was an "official" club will not be posted.

The website has not been being kept up to date because of a few issues but we are in the process of trying to rectify the problems. Dennis was the only person who was doing the website and we pretty much burned him out and got him in trouble with the wife so things have been fairly slow in that area. We now have 2 volunteers who have offered to help and are trying to get them headed in the right direction.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with everything. So far we have very few volunteers. Anyone who cares to donate some time to help with things is more than welcome to.

I too have been wondering about the silence. I cannot maintain a web page, but I am more than capable of posting minutes or info on meetings, etc.

If Dennis gets that stuff straightened out, I will be more than happy to help by posting whatever he sends me, etc.

I suppose on the matter of board meetings if they are to be a matter of public record, is the public invited or will it just be minutes posted? I would probably be for just posting minutes, as if the meeting was at someone's home they might not be able to handle 10 - 20 reefers at a time.

In any event, all of the decisions from here on out will be voted on, correct?

Howard

No Howard, all decisions will not be voted on and board meetings will not be public. We have had some VERY long meetings with just the 5 board members and any more people would just make them longer. There has to be a limit to how many people attend the meetings.

There also has to be a level of trust given to the board members to make the decisions for the club. The board is interested in the input of the members and, as usual, club business can be discussed in this forum. Any decision made by the board is capable of being overridden by the membership so nothing is written in stone.

Pizza nights and other "small" issues will not be voted on but anything major will be put to a vote.

Minutes will be posted to the website.

First and for most this club was created, is ran, and made up of friends. I am tired of the unfriendly comments but I have come to realize this will never end. I can be accused of them in the past. Really I come to expect them. The good thing is we will always respond no matter how bad one wants to stir the pot. If you want to get something done there is a constructive way of getting things resolved. Good solid clubs are not created over night, over the summer, or even after a year. I apologize to those who have their expectations high just give us time to get there. I appreciate each and everyone who have joined a new club here in Saint Louis. The ones who have decided to lend a hand are greatly appreciated. We will try our best to get things rolling for this coming fall as that is the time this area’s interest level starts to peak. In the mean time we have some activities planned for those who can make it. I have received some PMs from those who want to volunteer and some who want to run for a board position. The Secretary position is needed and will be voted on ASAP.
Someone will always be there to answer your questions so ask away. What I have promised to you all is a more interactive club for those far and those who are unable to make it to meetings. We have tried some things and I believe we have figured out what needs to happen to get them done. Hang in there what makes this club great is you “friends” keep posting and hope to hang out with you guys soon.

Greg I agree completely with you on the meetings and the not being public. Time and the size of the room needed would be difficult to come by for each meeting. As long as we post minutes there should not be any real issue.

I did not mean that we should put every decision to a vote, just major ones. Anything involving the day to day running of things does require a certain amount of trust be imparted to club officers, and I think you guys are doing a fine job thus far. Keep up the good work.

Dennis,
I haven't seen any really unfriendly comments. Some people will always be disgruntled, and you will always have the 10% that will never be happy no matter what. You just ignore and go on.

The purpose of voting on issues gives everyone a voice and makes them feel more a part of the club and what goes on with it. The more you can involve your membership, the happier everyone should be (in theory). :) :) :)

I am glad to see that you guys are around though Greg. It was sort of getting quiet and with just Nanook to chat with... Well you can only talk about beer and pizza so much, ya know?!?

Howie

Howard,

I think that the bottom line is that we have come a LONG way in a short time but still have a way to go.

It seems that so far, nothing has happened as quickly as we had hoped it would. Much of that has been out of our control.

That's not to say that we haven't dropped the ball on occasion and in all probability, it will happen again. All we can do is do our best and ask for patience and understanding. All of the members of the board have invested a LOT of their time and energy to get us to where we are today and, without giving too much personal information, it has also had an impact on our personal lives in various ways. Speaking for myself only, I will say that I had to take a little time off because of a personal matter but folks need to realize the we all have other priorities that need to be addressed.

The board had been meeting twice a week for a fair amount of time in order to get get the club formed. We invested a great deal of our personal lives to try to form what we thought would be something of which people would want to be a member. The meetings continue and along with the "bumps in the road" that seem to occur at the most inopportune time we still have more on our plates than we would like.

We have been and are doing our best to get this club headed where we want it to go.

We ask those who may be unhappy with our rate of progress to donate their time to make things happen at a rate that they find more acceptable and that they remember that, like things in this hobby, nothing good happens fast.
