Is that normal? Why are they all brown like that??

Diatom Algae. That's part of your tank cycle. Have you researched all the steps of the nitrogen cycle?

You should add a part of your CuC now

How far into the cycle is this? Or are you running new lighting? If the tank is still cycling, it's pretty normal, and should take care of itself before long.

LOL it is not
You are going to put a fish thru an Ammonia Spike and all the resulting stresses.

In another thread everyone told you to slow down and think it through and now this.

Do you like ****ing people off and writing about it for the shock value?

I have to agree with the comments that you are getting...just because the damsel only cost you $3 does not mean it should be sacrificed nor does the fact that it is hardy enough to survive the cycle mean it should be put through that. There is a lot that can be done to you that would not result in death that I am pretty sure you would not want to live through.

It's a fish. If you want to talk about morals then all these fish should not be taken away from their wild habitats. Dogs shouldn't be domesticated. Cows. Chickens. The list goes on.

I read somewhere that if you put a couple of damsels in then it will cycle faster.

If you don't get why torturing a couple of fish to avoid being bored with your tank is a problem, then you're probably a bad fit for the group here, although I can only speak for myself. That's lame, dude. Super lame.

And adding fish won't make the tank cycle any faster or slower.

And yeah, I have two domesticated dogs, but I don't generally drench them in ammonia...

It's a fish. One fish. You are all over reacting. This water rocks have been cycling since I started to get into this hobby. I knew cycling was going to take time so I bought 4 tanks and mixes salt and put in rocks 2 months ago. I've been using the same water and rocks. The fish isn't suffering. Don't tie your panties in a knot.

people are trying to help you....but as he asked, have you researched all the steps yet? you wouldn't be getting so much flack if you read up on stuff first.. just my opinion.

i think cycling the tank with the yellow tail damsel is a product of the past and not a method you will find endorsed by the modern reefer.

Hopefully it's just inexperience and ignorance on your part.

I cycled with a frozen cocktail shrimp. Just let him decay in the tank for a few days, kicked off the ammonia spike.

Next time think I would strong consider the humane method to cycle your tank and if you don't, don't share that information on here.

good luck to you.
