Hey, new to saltwater, me and my son trying to learn together. I've got two freshwater tanks, always wanted saltwater, so here I am..

Set up a new 32 biocube with 20lbs of live sand and about 20lbs of live rocks.

This was on one of the rocks, any help will be appreciated, Thanks

First picture looks like a small root of caulerpa paspalodies ( lol had to look up correct name) also known as green palm tree algae .... Nice looking algae once it fully developes it will also help out your water quality, make sure it keep it trim back when it grows, just like most caulerpas they can go sexual and pollute the water which will cause some damage to your tank if not care for .....a simply Google on care of this algae will be useful hope this helps and

Second pic is a brown button polyp... One thing about polyps is that they have a toxic on there skin so if you touch the polyp at all make sure you wash your hands a couple things. These polyps are known to be annoying for most reefers but a nice easy polyp to start with
Please read up on palytoxin and make your son aware of the risk of touching the polyp .... Nice rock layout btw .....

Thanks for the reply and info.
It looks a lot better now, I was going to pick it off but glad I didn't. It will give me something to look at till I get some corals, was wanting to wait 4 or 5 months. I'll just keep it thinned out till then, the guy at LFS wants me to bring him some when I do.

And thanks for the comment on my rocks, the big rock in the very back left needs to be turned around, it's full of color and skeletons, but it just doesn't fit right...

Do I need to be worried about dead space in the cave in the middle, I can put my whole hand in there?
