What is my Toadstool doing?

Not sure what my toadstool is doing here. Hoping someone can help explain.

I bought a small toadstool from the lfs in their frag tank. The toadstool was not attach to a rock. When I took it home, I tied a rubberband with a rock. Apparently, I tied it too tight...a few days later, the stalk of the toad stool broken off. In the attached pic, you can see the crown on the left, and the stalk still tied to the rock on the right. The stalk started forming a coating (bubble) around it. First thought come to mine is bacteria mucus...such as when a fish died.

So, hoping someone with much more knowledge can offer some advice.

Thanks.

cloak, what does a bubble on Euphyllia have to do with one on a leather?

Oxfordbay, I'd just leave it alone and see what happens. I've never personally done the fragging but I've got a buddy who has and he cuts the head into 8 pieces and the stalk into several depending on how long it is. He produces many toadstools. He cuts it and dips them in iodine and back into the frag tank they go

It's understandable how the tissue of a Euphyllia would be able to create a bubble like that. A Sarcophyton, not so much. Your going to have to explain that one to me.
