Just as the title reads. What is important or exciting to you? I ask you to choose one because the poll will only support that, but feel free to voice your opinons in this thread.

The obvious resounding answer to this question has been friendship and advice. They were omitted so we could see what else you like.

Enjoy!!!

Again these are only POSSIBLE program ideas.

There has been some discussion against the frag swap program being sponsored by the club. If it really interests you still mark it and I may just make it a seperate entity from the club. Same rules as described, we would just have to have our own membership to this specific group of frag traders. I think it could be a blast and everyone will get closer as a group and gain more from it.

what about scheduled regular meetings at peoples houses.. where they just show off their tank, and talk over the stuff they do. indianapolis's club did this- it was nice :) then after show and tell there was a presentation if prepared or a bis talk if needed. we had people talk over various aspects of the hobby, including lesser know items.

Topics included anything from how to get your RODI really clean [seriously the best one i was at- made me want a water softener!] -----to how I maintain calcium. they just used local club wisdom!

the best part is no room rental, education, and community. people brought food as needed

Awesome idea. I forgot that we used to do that when we first started. It was the reason I loved it. I knew there was something missing from our current design that used to be there. Thanks for the memory jog!!!

We originally had a small tank tour and at each stop the owner would explain their tank and why they designed their tank the way they did. I learned sooo much!!! We need to get back to this locally and you just happen to be local to me... I smell a November meeting idea!!!

THANKS MATT!!!

I came here for the reasons listed in the next paragrah.

A non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the reef aquarium hobby in the state of Iowa, through the exchange of ideas and knowledge and to promote captive propagation.

The most important part for me was the last reason. Therefore I decline to vote.

Billy you punk...
I had two propagation promotion ideas listed... :p

I think I know where you are comming from though as I was one of the first eBay live coral sellers. I like cash, but I was also one of the first club members/organizers. So, I like friends and the warm fuzzy that sharing gives too. Sharing was also how I got my feet wet in sps.

I like both and believe there is still room for both. You would never be forced or even asked to give anything away from your own tank. It is all free will donations or group purchases. If anyone feels like they lean one way or the other throw a vote up. This is just a blind poll. Just trying to see where everyone is at.

I also want to see how many people want to do some DIY and Book Swaps.

I voted for speakers, but I don't really mean big name speakers... I'd just like to see us have more regular meetings in the different areas.

I think I might need to make another poll without speakers in it. To see what the third choice would truely be as I too agree that speakers are a key ingredient to our club and really shouldn't have been a question. This shows that we need to focus on getting our regular meeting schedule back with preset times and topics. THat would fullfill the friendship and speaker requests. I also like the idea of having local meetings in a member's home. There is nothing cooler and informative than that.

Someone mentioned that you were going to volunteer to be a speaker. Something about clown fish breeding I heard.

well, if ona local level [each of the cities] had a meeting at some one's house, they could of course be the speaker.. and speak on their tank...

I was just over at einsteins this week, and heck- i got more ideas on what to change on my tank than I have had in 4 months on the forums, just talking to him and asking him questions....

topics i would like to see spoken on are
show and tell on tanks
green water/ and other micro foods
clownfish breeding :)
chemestry/ dosing
diys
hooking up live wepages to fishtanks

if after that people want to go grab a bite, that is fine- but I think putting the meetings at a house would be more beneficial than being at a restruant.

saly, i am in an apartment, and have very limited space [and weight with my tank upstairs] down the road, I could always have a small group over...

Hmmm, was hoping for more responses to this poll. Once they get over a day or two old they start to get skewed by nonmembers and other posts in the forum and lose their validity.

What I see comming from this is that people would like things focused in this order... Tell me if I am way off.

They want scheduled meetings to get together and build friendships with other reefers. The meeting should have a speaker, but it doesn't have to be a big name. It would be nice if some meetings were held in the homes of area reefers. They want to learn new DIY projects and get a little hands on at the meetings. They would also like to share frags with new people, but keep it easy.

There it is, focus on those things for the next year and most should be happy.
