what is the one thing you wish you DIDN'T do?

I thought this might be an interesting thread. If you can think back over your fish keeping career what is the one thing you would go back and not do? For me it's buying so many carnivorous fish (ie, triggers) I am into more reef friendly fish now and want a reef, but have too many non reef safe fish. But then again, what did I know years ago! :)

A pair of maroon clownfish, special the female she about 4"+ and will knock off rocks, corals 10 times bigger than her.

Definitely wouldn't get maroon clowns again. It was a pita pairing them and the female turned a dull blackish color and appropriated 30g of tank space. I did love them though - Queen Isabella and Mr. Queen Isabella, RIP.

i wish i didnt start with a 75g without research. . . ive made so many mistakes, that if i had planned it all out i could have had a 300g for the same price...

Not having a cover on my tank and losing my pellet eating yellow belly regal angel.

joining reefcentral, all the cool tanks and fish just cost me more money to try and keep up. JK i love my tank and reading and seeing others. The wealth of knowledge is great.
But honestly, building an 800gal in my previous house. Now no tank equals in comparison and my 128 seems like a nano.

about 24 years ago I set up a 150g tank (6x2x 20") that was to be my reef tank. While it was cycling, an unidentified Eel came in on fish day at the LFS I worked at. It was (at ~20") bigger than they wanted in any of their tanks, so it was given to me. Conventional wisdom of the time said that a marine fish living more than a year or two was uncommon, so I figured, what the hell.

Hannibal is now ~ 48" long, weighs in at ~ 15lbs, and, being a Gymnothorax Undulatus (Undulated Moray) one of the meanest critters in the ocean. He has eaten everything I have tried to put in with him (hence the name). Oh - and it turns out his lifespan is somewhere in the 30 to 50 year range.

Guess that reef will have to wait.

allowing the gf to get one black and one orange occy clown

Why do you wish you hadn't done that? I really like the way those two fish look together.

I wish I didn't slack. A few times a year I let the tank go. Once a month wc's don't do the tank justice. The past few weeks I've done the work and the tank looks so much better. Kalk in the ato and weekly wc's are turning things around. Real polyp extension. I'm going to try to stay on track.

+1 on getting into the hobby. It is so addicting. Its like an addict, you need your dose of the newest corals, equipment, upgrades, fish. If i tally up all the money i spent, i could of been a much richer man.
