her tanks are cycled already......what spike ya refering to david?

Joe.... we all know that tanks cycle all the time.... they are constantly going through ups and downs in the ammonia cycle.
It allways fluctuates in my tnaks depending on bioload, algae growth, and temp. Sometimes the slime just shows up, and dissapears a few days later after adding new stuff, or adding other peoples tank water.

sheesh yer such a N00B Joe...... :p

I've had cyano pop up in my tank a few times. I didnt change anything in my normal tank routine. Still did water changes weekly and never changed lighting or feeding schedules. Only thing I did was take the turkey baster and suck up as much of the cyano as possible, right before my water change. It eventually receeded and disappeared after a couple weeks. ;)

hummm....well maybe yours shows ammonia from time to time but unless there is a reason of ammonia to be present, like a death I don't see it. I seldom if ever show ammonia. And yes a change in bio load cold show trace ammonia I suppose.

"Joe.... we all know that tanks cycle all the time.... they are constantly going through ups and downs in the ammonia cycle."
I don't agree ...guess I should talk to a pro like you more often, besides I seem to remember you saying you never test your tank so how would you knpw if there was ammonia present?

and the sarcasm goes right over Joes head yet again..................

damn it is almost too easy to get you fired up that it almost isn't fun anymore... gah.

* almost ;)

LOL

Welcome swingers, pull up a groove and get fabulous ! YEAH BABY YEAH

The fact that the ammonia doesn't show up is good.. because the bacteria grows and dies also with the bioload. It only shows up in a test kit when there is an unballance in PPM and bacteria colony numbers.

LOL! ....dave keep up the comic relief!...actually jallard u make a valid point ! excess nitrates can also cause this too....not a cyclce...... but an unwanted nutrient that feeds all sorts of unwanted stuff. close to a recycle but not ....but treat the same. keep high cleaning habits.....prestine water is amust in either scenerio. jmo....good luck....and wether the spike is ammonia or nitrates wait for them to resolve...with less feeding and prestine water youll resolve this ....and let time pass...to be solid sure....

i think shespeaks of a new tank receantly set up....i think......... as we have talked about a new nano set up.

Yea the sarcasm went right over my head.....I guess again. Like always tone of a persons voice dosen't transfer well in online in forums. Guess I missed it my bad.

So from now on only assume everything espi says is false and purely for shock value and we all should be fine.... :D

Yes,

As I mentioned a few posts above, I've used the ultra life brand red slime remover, It worked very well for me, just dont dose as much as it says, you have to take into account, your live rock/sand, etc takes up room in the tank, so a 90 gallon tank, may actually only have 75 gallons of water after your rock etc... so its easy to overdose and wipe your tank out... just be careful with the stuff and you should be slime free soon

Try and keep your water changes something less then "HUGE" ;) At least 25% or less so not to shock the tank.

Cruella/ Amy are you using a TDS meter? Test and see where your RO/DI water is at? Curious to see the results?

ive been hexed, ive never had a single sign of red algae in my tank but i woke up today and its everywhere. ive neen cursed:D its my own fault, i skipped a water change because im gonna set up my new tank in a few days as long as my ro/di can make enuf water in time(i hate that damn thing its 2 slow).i think ill try some chlorine it keeps the algae outta mi pool:D

red crap

red crap

hey there has to be high levels of **** in the water. everyone I know is being cursed by the red alge. mine looked better today

I do use RO/DI water. my sons tank which is fresh water has a huge green alge outbreak which has never happened before. I have used tap water on his tank for years. now it is a mess. the drinking water has to be out of wack

Contents of tap water do fluctuate.
