What is this?

I received an RBTA from the Divers Den on Live Aquaria and they shipped it with no hot packs. It was 59* that morning in FLORIDA and was even colder north of me ::cough-Wisconsin-cough:: The water temp was below 70* and here is what the anenome looked like after an hour of acclimating it.

I extended the acclimation period to about 2 hours 30 minutes and then put it in my tank. It now looks like it is holding a rock in its mouth.

It is about 2" above my clownish and slightly to the left.

Does anyone know what that is or why it is doing whatever its doing?

Here is a pic of the whole anenome before it went into hiding. You can kind of see the rock in the mouth. This pic is from my phone.

Any input would be helpful other then the anenome looks bleached. I agree. It was red in the pictures.

Was that the one that was listed as 7inches? It probably was expelling its zooxanthealle from the stress of being in such cold water. It does look like it lost its color. I don't know why LA is sending btas with no heat packs. It looks like it might recover but who knows if it will recover if its mouth doesn't close tight soon.. I would let LA know as soon as possible.

Given how stressed it was when you got it, it looked pretty good in that last picture. As to it hiding, that's normal. BTAs will typically hide out under a rock until they're comfortable, then move somewhere where the light and flow are to their liking. Give it a week or even two to come out before you start to worry. I think it's a good sign that the tentacles you're seeing are inflated.

And I second the advice to let LA know about the shipping condition.

Nothing unusual. Fish and corals ship better being cold, not hot. Your anemone will be fine. Many of them look like yours upon arrival.

Is that a saddle back clown? If so, watch them they are very aggressive towards there anemone?

marina is right. i had a bta shipped from LA last february and the temp i recieved it in was 56. degrees.
And looked dead

the clown is an Allardi (female). My last anenome (carpet) ate the male...

This anenome was the one listed at 5 inches with the pronounced bulbs. Speaking of bulbs, I just got my Pheonix 14k in the mail today.

it's bleaching. Check you water parameter like phosphate ...
I used to have a high phosphate and my bta bleached out but they do comeback.

IMO It only lookes bleached in the pic that is really poor quality. The other shots don't show it looking bleahed at all.
