What is wrong with this little male Anthias?

Hello everyone,

For the past 4 weeks we are experiencing something rather peculiar for our experience. Our male Anthias stopped swimming and is sitting in various parts of the tank bottom, sand, rock etc. It seems as if he has lost his buoyancy. During this period he hasnt lost any weight and his breathing doesnt show any signs of being sick or stressed. We got him 2 months ago and he was very shy right from the beginning. Do you have any idea what is going on with him and if there is anything we can do to help?

Here is a picture of him

Thank you so much for reading our thread,

Warm regards from Copenhagen,

once in a while some of my anthias do this too ... just chill in some spot all day.

one was that the male was harassed by the other male, another time I just increased feeding and it started being up in the water column,

I dont know though to be honest,

This is so weird. As long as he is ok we are happy. Thanks for your time in replying Allmost :)

The part about losing his buoyancy could be a symptom of an intestinal or swim bladder disorder. If so, the only thing you can do is try feeding a peeled boiled pea to relieve any obstructions. This method oftentimes doesn't work, but I've never known it to cause further harm either.

Just as long as he is eating...should be okay. I recently bought a school of 7 disbar anthias and they were all doing fine until two weeks later in quarantining three develope what i think was a bacterial inflection (later had frailed fins, cloudy eyes, not swimming and just laying on the banks/rocks, fungus looking patches etc) Four later died and I was only left w/ 3. If these signs show then immediatley tx...good luck and hope he is doing better.

Thanks HumbleFish for the good advice- I will try and see how i can perform this task in my tank but definitely worth giving it a try.

Thanks reef80, Hope he will make it . He is eating ok but there is something weird about him - He is sitting very closeby my anemone and although i "push" him away he keeps on going on the same spot - That stresses me a bit because i dont want him to end up Anemones dinner. Will keep you posted of the outcome. Once again thanks for your time in replying.

I am noticing a similar problem in my male bartlett anthia. The two female i got with him are doing fine. What happened to the fish. any updates.
