Dang, I knew it was too good to be true. It was listed as a Ctenochaetus tang species that I was very interested in collected in Polynesia.

It's not an Atlantic blue. Could be the juvie white tail it's listed as, but the fin shape looks wrong. Definitely a bristletooth though.

A couple I think, I know Ctenochaetus truncatus has the yellow coloration as well as the pblue eyes as a juvie.

Isn't truncatus tail more square than the first pic?

Maybe a bionatus? This is a juvie bionatus from fishbase.

Juvie binotatus maybe? Mine has much more prominently blue eyes, but he was already mostly turned to adult colors (deep purple with bright yellow tail and some orange stripes) when I got him at 3", so I can't say for sure if his eyes were less blue as a baby. The shape is right.

Ok, I took a chance...not really a chance because if I can't find a C. flavicauda a Two Spot bristletooth will be fine. I placed the order and the fish I got today does not look at all like the photo in the first post. He's starting to change in to his adult colors already! Tell me what you think. Do I have a White tail bristletooth tang (Ctenochaetus flavicauda)?

Looks like it to me! Congrats. I was holding out for one for a while, but ended up with my twinspot instead. Gorgeous fish.
