What kind is this?

I'm pretty sure it's a monti, but thats about it. Does anyone know the specific kind/name for this? Best closeup I could get. It's near the back top of my tank right now. I figure it needs lots of light to keep the coloring. Anyone else have one too?

why would he have to PM chris? nice piece BTW :D

Any consensus?

Thanks murphreef!

phreak312, I couldn't pass it up. It was just too nice, hadn't seen something like it before.

jeffkluse, that sounds about right maybe. Thanks.

Montipora for sure, I'm not sure I would call it a digitata.
Could be a couple others [confusa, stellata, a few others] ... nice unique piece!

Does it have a greenish tip? I have one in my tank and find it real hard to hold its colouration without strong lights... suggest you place it high up and that does not guarantee you hold the light green tips... :(

Not too much green, a little bit. The tips are kinda mix cream and greenish coloring. It's in one of the highest spots it can get. Lots of light - hope it stays this way. You'd think that my 1148w of light would be enough, but it's not for some.

MiddletonMark, thanks!

I have seen lots of these come out of Bali. They are Maricultured and labeled as digitatas. I questioned the label as well when I saw them. They are thick and ridged like a spumosa but the colors are digitata. I never seen one of them in a system for long enough to see if took on different growth forms after aclimating to aquaria.

I had mine under 1600+W of lights... no it didn't hold... the polyps lost its vibrant colour but to be fair, I had it way too low after another similar digitata (orange polyps with white tips) bleached out, prompting me to really place it low... I tried moving it up again but it hasn't gotten back it former glory after almost 8 weeks... :(

You're probably right... they have thick branches but mine (the one with whitish tips from the same source) spanned out like fans and developed really thin tips... and I mean real thin!!
