What kind of anemone...?

What kind of anemone is this? The LFS has it for sale as a "maroon anemone" which I don't think is right.

Maroon anemone? Haha! I've never heard that one before. I can't tell myself, but then again I'm mostly a BTA nut (and it doesn't look like one of those).

+3 for very healthy sebae/crispa. I've had mine for over a year, & it looked exactly like that when I bought it. My b/w occi's love their home-esp. since it's more than doubled in size since I got it--talk about an upgrade...;) One of the LFS here had a lavender-ish/maroon one awhile back & called it a maroon too. Occasionally run across them, but don't know if they're dyed or not.

Yeah, that's a sebae. My LFS has a tendency to list a lot of these by whatever was on the shipping list, and a lot of shippers seem to just list the color, so seeing it as a "Maroon" is understandable. The only problem is they tend to list a bleached out one as "White." While there are "white" sebaes, they aren't really pure white like the ones my LFS has for a very short time... :(

FWIW, Petco locally has had a few of these, and surprisingly good color and shape. Hate to think how many are bought by those unprepared to feed and keep it. Personally, I like sebaes better than bubble tips or most other anemones, but they aren't the easiest to keep.

It could be either Malu or Crispa. Hard to tell them apart. If it get really big then it is a Crispa if it stay small even with a lot of feeding then it is a Malu (spawned at size of about 6-8 inches)

Another way to tell them apart is their foot or column. Crispa has very thick leathery tissue on the column, and a large foot. Malu has much more delicate tissue and a skinny little foot.

I keep both. I cannot tell them apart other then how big they get. Thye both sand bed anemone. All you can see is near their top anyway.
