I got one too, a couple months ago. (saltwater island by any chance?) They are just like your typical sand/rock/flower anemone. Mine stuck his foot in a frag of anthelia on my sand bed and made friends lol. And mine really likes silversides.
Actually the rock or flower anemone originates from the Atlantic whereas that species originates from the Indo-Pacific. A clearer pic would remove all doubt, but I believe the anemone in the pic is called a frilly anemone and/or sometimes referred to as Borneman anemone after Eric Borneman, an aquarist who introduced them into the hobby years ago.
In aquarium, these guy reproduce in a strange way. The column twisted and pinched off. The foot form a smaller anemone while the oral plate form another anemone.
I am sure there got to be sexual reproduction in the wild also.
That's funny. I put mine in the sandbed and it climbed up onto that frag. The base is a piece of dead monti cap so I pick them up and move them around like a serving tray! Just my luck as I meant to get an anemone for the sandbed lol.
Yeah it's actually looking even better now, the green center is now the entire area going into the tentacles on all sides. Unfortunately, the soft coral "collar" died off in a nasty phosphate spike, but the nem took it and all is well.
Well, I got too much red and green in my tank, and I am covered when it comes to xenia, but I guess if you had an excess of blue anthelia I would be ok if you sent some my way.
