My LFS has a "fern star"...not a lfs that I would buy from , but was wondering what was known about them. I've searched my library and the net, but can't seem to find 'em. It looks almost like a plant - maybe 1.5 to 2", green & white curly-cue leafy (ferny) legs...

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance....

Yup, leave all crinoids in the ocean. But is nice to see that at least pilotinho has kept one for a year so far That is a first as far as I know.

Thanks all for the excellent info!!! You were all quite correct in your ID's, it was a feather star. Was...

After reading your posts & doing a little more research on my own, I completely agree that these wonderful creatures need to stay in their natural habitat!

I called the LFS yesterday to check up on it and was told "it wasn't gonna make it"...! At least the guy did say he too thought that they should stay in the ocean and wasn't quite sure why they had even got one it the store.

What a horrible, terrible shame! It was so very beautiful....:sad1:

You could call the LFS and see if they would be willing to give it to you, if you think you can make the commitment to give it your best shot.

Hey gravey! I know that it's been almost a month since you posted, but it's been a while since I've been online.

I did call the next day, but it was already too late....:sad1: I had thought that I might at least be able to bring the poor thing home and let it die in peace. It would have been well worth the $$

I won't buy so much as a filter pad from that place now!

BTW...thanks again for the help and good advise from all!
