I recently upgraded my tank from a 30 gallon to a 80. When I finally had the 30 empty aside from the sand, I dug through the sad a bit to uproot any snails that may have been hiding. Of course, the sand was super smelly, I didn't do a very good job, and set the tank outside.

The next morning; I noticed a few snails had come to the "surface". Also, there was a large worm 10-12" long that closely resembled an earth worm; or a feather duster without his tube.

I did have a feather duster, over a year ago. My blenny tormented him; and ended up eating his crown. He grew another, and the blenny ate that too. The duster bailed from the tube, and I assumed he was dead/ate up by the scavengers.

Sooo..my question is this, has anyone had an experience with a feather duster living under the substrate; with no crown, and never showing himself? Is there any type of marine worm that resembles an earthworm that lives under the substrate?

The thought did cross my mind that one of the neighborhood kids could have just tossed an earthworm in the tank, but I live in Vegas. The dirt around here is like clay, and super dry right now...it would have been a hassle for someone to find an earthworm and plant it in my tank (we are talking going to a fishing shop and buying one or something).

Anyhow, thanks for reading this long winded post, and I look forward to any ideas!

More likely a bristle worm here's one I found in my tank. Ron ID'd it for me awhile back.

That pic looks alot more like what I found than the peanut worm, although I didnt notice any bristles on the one I found.

On the peanut worm, there are lines going along the length of the worm, and the lines on my worm were much more like the pic you posted.

Thats one big stinking bristle worm!
