what light fixture would you buy with 1500 dollars for a 72 inch tank size

Thanks:), it has 3 250-watt DE 10k's on HQI, with 4 t-5's at 39-watts (2 across the back, 2 across the front). I'm wanting to replace the t-5's with the superblue's you guys mentioned. I saw the superblues in person and was impressed with the color.

Thanks very much thats a good looking light .I also was looking at the 400w twin series through premium aquadics .I just need more info on it .

I really appreciate all the help I'm receiving here .

The last time I was here for info it was on buying a calcium reactor after checking out all the options I purchased the Jet Stream one from PA and I couldn't be more pleased.

this threads got me rethinking my decision:

I was also considering the Maristar and the Aqua Medic for my 125, both with 10ks and the T5's. I was just concerned that the t5's wouldn't be blue enough and wouldn't provide enough light for some of the more light hungry critters.

Maybe the Hamilton's not the way to go. The other 2 are more esthetically appealing.

I know how you feel I have reseaching this for about 3 weeks .

I 'm waiting to here from the griesemann guy to get the last of my info then I think I will be able to buy the best lighting system for the money I want to spent .

I will let you know what they have to say .

Check out that link from Herbert T Kornfeld
Thats one nice looking light . Its about 1400.00 I think its the one I'm going to buy as of right now .

The giesemann is a nice light, but I need something that will sit on the tank. I have 30 ft cathedral ceilings and I wouldn't look forward to hanging that bad boy.

Also, I'm not too sure about the electronic ballasts. I think I'll go with the HQI's.

What about that thread has you rethinking? What was your decision anyways?...hamiltons?

I hate hamilton...cheap quality...reflectors suck. Their ballasts hum loud...dont even think they are HQI/M80 spec...just pulse-start it seems. I ask because I also see in that thread that the guy is commenting on how a single large fixture is a PITA if something goes wrong...seperate components are handy that way.

I like PFO the best for pendants...second would be Sunlight Supply...and the exception would be a lumenarc3 reflector if you have a situation where you can use one.

You dont have to hang it from the ceiling either...you can simply make a frame to hold it. Also, you might want to contact them...I think they make side legs to mount that series...but that does limit your ability to adjust the height. FWIW, I have all pendants...but none hang from the ceiling...they have hangers, or swingarms if you will...that are attached to the tank's base and make a 90degree turn to hang over the tank. The extra benefit is that the pendants swing out of the way easily.

Like so...

You could bend up some conduit and spraypaint it...secure it to the back of the tank...one arm at each end...and awaaay you go!

Heh that's an ooooold thread from NR ... I remember those days :D I'm actually considering some sort of arm to hang the two ROIII 250s I plan on hanging over the long-overdue 40B I've been planning (forever, it seems).

Yes Hamiltons WAS!

I like the Maristars, looks nice, has legs for the tank, I'm just worried about the T5"s with 10K's and thinking it won't be enough blue. What would you say?

Cool setup, just looks like more of a project. My honey do list is long enough as it is and I'v got the wifes permission to spend on this project. I just want to get it done ASAP before she realizes she's missing out on 2 weeks in Hawaii because of it! :lmao:

I had a look at the PFO's. Iwas trying to price it here:http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_lighting_metal_halide_pfo_fixture.asp?CartId=

I got confused when it got to the MH ballast q's. Which one's. The HQI's are for the DE bulbs, no? Then there's no choice of DE bulbs. Single or dual ballast. I'd think single would be better if one went, but is that price for all of them or is that a per ballast price?

My head hurts!

I wanted to get the lighting first so I can see how it will effect my temps. Then I guess it may be on to chiller choices, OH BOY!

Thanks

Well I have made my choice and the winner is

Giesemann 230 eco 72 inch 3 250watt 13000k De lights with a tunze 7095 with moonlight controller and two tunze 6100 series pumps

I did too.

Ordered the Maristar today. Called Ocean Medic for specs as they don't really give you any info on their website and they never returned the call. The girl that answered the phone was giving me the 3rd degree obout whether I was a dealer or not. I told I was a possible customer and needed some technical information before I'd buy their product through my LFS. She grudgingly took my details but no return call.

The Maristar comes with 10k Ushios and D&D, German T5's. All the MH's can be timed independently. Looks like a better quality unit.

My LFS is letting me have it for cost +100, so It's a good deal too!

Aqua medic finally called back. The guy was very nice and answered all my q's. I had read some not so nice things about their warranty service and asked him about it. He said that if you recieve it and it doesn't work, they'll replace it and pay the freight.

If it runs for a week or 2 and fails then you send it back to them and they repair it, your expense. If they have a loaner they'll send it, if not they won't. They may talk with you about and to see if they can trouble shoot it for you, then send you the parts so you can fix it!

Not my idea of a warranty.

The Maristar is made with much better quality components.

I'll give you an update when I get it.

It was the fact that I couldn't get the other one for 8 weeks .I really didn't want to wait that long so I called PA and ordered the maristar and the 7095 controller and two 6100 series pumps and I think I will be very happy I will keep you informed on how it works out .
