What on earth am I? (ID)

Am I an anemone or a coral? If either, what am I? One person said a frogspawn, but I was suspect?

From its look I think anemone, but it has two form....crazy! I was finally able to get better pics of it. It does move around.

Day form



night form...started changing already to its day form. It is even more stringy at its full.

yeah, I always wondered that, but its day body is contrary to how they look, right?

Ya that is what threw me a little. In the second pic it looks like it has some algae attached to it or something else is stuck to it, which might explain the weird shape in the day. There is also a small aiptasia on the front of the rock in the second pic on the right side.

well, I have had it for a long time and it has gotten huge. It always had these shapes and changed form. I do know their is nothing attached to him and its all its own body, since it has grown proportionally.

Looks like a Mojano Anemone to me. Here is one I plucked out of a frag bag a while ago...

Not as bad a aptapsia. They do tend to move around and will spawn like aptapsia does when they get broken apart. The moving is characteristic of an anemone, but they do it mainly for food. They hide from the light & current as I noticed as well.

Mojanos are like aptapsia, but if you keep them in check then there shouldn't be a huge problem.

That thing is sweet! I would keep it, at least until you get an accurate ID, definitely not Aiptasia or Majano.

I agree^. That thing is WAY cool, and definitely not majano or aiptasia.

Try posting a pic in the clownfish/anemone forum. You would probably stand a better chance of a positive ID.

It looks like what my LFS calls a "corkscrew" anemone, but I have never heard a real ID of it.
