What pet store will give you a FAIR price for your fish?

For a couple of weeks I have been trying to advertise a Bluelined Triggerfish for sale. He has to go this weekend. So my question is, if I were to drive into the chicagoland area, what store would give me a FAIR value for this 7'' beast. I know I'm not going to get a hundred bucks for it, but I just dont want to be stuck with a store saying heres 15 bucks in store credit for the fish. If you have any advice or experiences with this, please let me know. Thanks a lot

Dan over at Odd Lot's Petshop (79th and Harlem, Bridgeview) used to give me Wholesale price on fish (store credit against purchase) even if I didn't buy 'em there...

Coral Reef in Norridge gives store credit but I believe they want to hold the fish for 5 days to see if its healthy.

the new Kona Grill in Oak Brook has a couple large saltwater tanks behind the bar.....wonder if you could sell to them?

I have 2 fish at Coral Reef they are letting me sell on cosignment. of course, I've been shopping there for 20 years. I'm sure they'd give a decent store credit to you though.

I can't think of a store that will give a fair price for a fish in return. They are taking a risk of spreading disease to their tanks and their wholesale prices are a lot less than you probably want to get. My best advice would be to search for a hobbyist/store that is most able to house that fish and give it proper care. I love triggers and had a Blueline for several years (with a 5 stitch scar on my ring finger to prove it), I wish you luck in finding him a good home.

We actually just picked up that account a few weeks ago, the company that was doing the maint. before us was horrible. Those tanks are set up to run on undergravel filters. Each tank is around 800g, and they are using an undergravel filter. I would hope they wouldn't buy a fish and toss it in a tank as they have no clue what they are doing.

Just today I was out the Lincolnshire location and they had just stocked their tanks because a big wig was comming in from out of town. They put a huge bluespot grouper in with some smaller fish in one of the tanks, needless to say there is no more small fish, and one obese grouper.

Pretty much no store is going to give you more money then what they can order the fish for. Which is quite cheap.

sellout007, Are you stocking those tanks? Last time I was there I saw maybe 2-3 small fish in each of those monster tanks....they looked bare. Do you also have the maintenance of the Braxton Grille, with those giant Pacus? Those things must be at least 25 lbs each.

We did not add any fish to the tanks yet as the previous Maint. company neglected them and the water quality is bad. They went ahead and added fish to each of the tanks in both locations Lincolnshire and Oak Brook without telling us. Hence why the bluespot ate those small fish.

I don't recall us doing a Braxton Grille, sorry.
