What Photography Gear Did You Get For The Holidays?

I saw a similar thread to this in other forums, so I thought we should have one here!
What photography gifts did everyone get for the holidays? Whether it was Christmas gifts, Hanukkah, or stuff you bought for yourself, what did you get?

I'll start, I got a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D AF, plus a B+W ND 3.0 and 0.3, as well as a few pouches and whatnot.

I am also looking at upgrading myself to a D90 from my D40. For the built in auto focus, and the HD movie capabilities and MOAR MEGAPIXELS!!!!! Just kidding about the MPs, although doubling them never hurt.

no camera gear this year (I was hoping for a Pentax K5)

BUT! my parents surprised me with a signed and framed gallery photo from the landscape photographer Peter Lik (thats photography related!)

Actually, while I was on vacation, I did get this shot of a whale shark in the wild. That'll do as my photo-related Christmas gift!

I too did not get the camera I wanted, but while on the topic what camera do you guys think is the best for photographing out reef tanks?

Got L bracket for 7D as gift
so I ordered Photoclam 44ns ball head tripod head to replace manfrotto 488rc2 to use L bracket lol!
to Luhring, since u asked for BEST, I would say Canon 1Ds III/1D IV or Nikon D3x/D3s
but really any DSLR today can take very good pictures of reef tank

Santa brought me a gigantic (1650) pelican case, a couple filters (B+W CPL and B+W 10 stop ND), and then the couple pieces I needed to be able to fire my second flash. Oh and then a couple books. :D

I got a Canon Rebel T2i
Ive never had a DSLR before so I'm pretty stoked. gotta learn how to use this thing now :)

no gear for me, though Hanson Fong was up here and gave a free seminar. I am not a poeple photographer, but he had some nice techniques and ideas anyway. I'm sure at some point I'll be doing more people. Tried some new stuff for our Xmas card and I liked how it came out.

Dendro - that thing is awesome. How cool to see that in the wild! Where were you?

Just isn't fair :(
I want a really good camera, I guess I wasn't good enough last year...
I will try harder this year..lol

I was in the North Shore, Hawaii. We got really lucky in our shark cage trip to see it. Most of the sharks were 6'-10' Galapagos sharks and then this 20' Whale comes.

I've always wanted to do a dive with Whale sharks and now I am definitely going to book a trip to do that. The only problem is, they are plankton eaters and nobody really tells you this, but baby jellyfish = plankton.

Does gift to myself count?
I bought myself a 70-200 VRII :inlove::inlove:

oh man, too bad it's not a Canon, :eek1:. Kidding, I'm totally kidding :love1:. Sweet lens, and F2.8 nice....and heavy :). I like mine though, even though depending on what I am doing I still use the F4 version quite a bit. Hopefully you'll start a new thread showing off some images taken with that puppy :bounce3:.

That is one lens I want to add to my collection but just can not justify the cost as I have no idea what I would use it for, lol.

How does the VRII compare to the VRI though? I remember reading something about needing ff for it or something?

I bought myself a pair of 8gb Lexar Pro 400x CF cards. I have six 8gb cards now, I am paranoid about data loss after a bad card several years back, so I switch out cards during my shoots. I've never actually filled one of my 8gb cards. lol.

I've owned the 80-200, 70-200 VR1 and now the MkII. The VRII is amazing- I can get crisp shots at 200mm, ISO 200 at 1/5. One-FIFTH of a second handheld. :eek2:

thanks all, it is heavy.. but fun! and I've always wanted one. :D
