What Photography Gear Did You Get For The Holidays?

I've owned the 80-200, 70-200 VR1 and now the MkII. The VRII is amazing- I can get crisp shots at 200mm, ISO 200 at 1/5. One-FIFTH of a second handheld. :eek2:

Nice, that's cool. I was reading about the MKII version of the Canon 70-200 F2.8. People were commenting mostly on the improved quality as it is made specifically with digital resolution in mind. I also saw posts about the improved abilty to focus with the outter focus points vs the original version. I wonder if the actual ability of the stabilization feature is noticed too? All of that is here-say anyway because the new one is way out of my budget. I am happy with the quality I get now so no matter how hard I try I can't justify the expense....yet.

Nice Joseph! Long time no see! Nice gift, I wasn't as generous to myself but I did pick up a much needed 50mm 1.4 for xmas. Looks like we need to get together and have a battle of the 70-200's Nikon vs Canon. You and your Nikons... :p

The Original, so it may not be a fair fight but I sure do love that thing! The AF is so fast and silent when I got my 50mm 1.4 with USM I thought there was something wrong with it... lol Guess I got a little spoiled :D

Anytime Austin.. but I guess we have to meetup around noon so there's plenty of light for your CANON? :lmao:

btw, how's your new baby? must be getting big now huh..

Santa came to me with a Nikon D90 and av Sigma 70 mm 1:1 macro! :)
Nice toy to play with during the holidays!

This is my first camera that isnt a compact so both the pothographing and the work in the picture program is kind of new to me.
I am trying to get the colours as close to the real ones as possible.

Mine was a little late but I got a Nikon D3100 and a extra 55-200 lens. Now I just need to learn how to use it.

santa left me a canon 580 EX II flash, though i wished for a tilt shift :p im not complaining.

:lmao: That might not be a bad idea... :hmm2:

Baby is good, thanks for asking! She is 1 now and running around causing trouble and being a pest! Love her to death though. We should definitely get together, I am getting more into this photography thing and you could probably show me a thing or two. Not to mention I want to check out that lens!

Good to hear Austin. What do you shoot now?

In all seriousness, I can shoot with anything -whatever fits my current situation. I am still entertaining the thought of switching to Canon, maybe a 5D2 body and some L primes (or a 5D3 someday) My reasoning is that if I dump all my Nikon gear today, I will be able to get everything I want on the Canon side and still have a huge change left!

btw, one of the Socal reefers came over my house to see my tank. He brought his 50D.. then for the next 30 minutes, both him and I tried to figure out how to change the ISO.. lol

:lol2: I still get a little confused when I go to change AF point selector... But I don't really use it much anyway..

Anyway, I picked up a 7D a while back and lovin it! Working on my lens collection now. I am likin the 50mm 1.4, now I see what all the prime fuss is all about. Just getting used to zooming with my feet... Got the 10-22mm, 70-200 2.8L (IS of course ;) ) and tamron 28-75 2.8 (cause I am too cheap to spring for the 24-70 2.8L). Believe it or not I traded off the 100mm macro. I have just been sort of neglecting my tank and took my share of polyp extension macro shots, lol. I loved the lens but felt the 10-22mm would be more useful.

But yeah let's get together and shoot. You ever head down south my way?

I got a fuji xp10 underwater camera from costco.
the pictures I get taken with the camera in the DT does not have the usual blue tint that I get if the camera is outside the DT.
I got the olympus tough 6000 at first but returned it since it does not take video.

I think the underwater point and shoot camera is a better option compared to getting a $500 canon 100mm macro lens. I've always needed a backup point and shoot camera anyways.

How can you compare a point and shoot camera to a macro lens? No way you could get the same magnification and detail.

I can put the point and shoot in macro mode and position it right in front of the coral.
expensive equipment does not equate to nice pictures.
